Job summary

The State of Florida, Department of Corrections, seeks a Career and Technical Education Teacher for Workforce Readiness at the North West Florida Reception Center. The role focuses on delivering CTE classes to inmates, managing classroom discipline, and assessing progress to support rehabilitation and reintegration.

The position requires a high school diploma with 3 years in the CTE area or applicable licensure/certification, and licensure within 12 months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus three years’ experience in the CTE subject area being taught.
• Possession of current licensure or certification in the CTE being taught or a postsecondary certificate may substitute for up to one year of experience.
• Must hold or be willing to obtain within 12 months the applicable subject area license or industry certification.
• Temporary Florida Department of Corrections Educator’s Certificate issued; five years to obtain Professional Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Plans, develops, and conducts classes in assigned subjects for inmates.
• Supervises inmates in class, conducts roll calls and maintains attendance records.
• Ensures order, discipline, tool control, and safety in classroom/shop.
• Evaluates student progress, administers grades/tests, and counsels on program progress.
• Participates in meetings and professional development; assists in budget preparation and purchase requests for the education program.
