Job summary

Actalent is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer to support an industrial client in the Portland Metro region. This hands-on role emphasizes PLC programming, automation integration, and machine startup, with mentorship from senior controls engineers and growth into a broader automation leadership path.

You will work on robotics, vision, and motion control across multiple projects from concept to startup in a fast-paced lab/shop environment.

Qualifications

• Proven controls engineering experience with PLC programming and automation.
• Ability to design, modify, troubleshoot control panels and schematics.
• Familiarity with multiple PLC platforms (Siemens, Mitsubishi, Allen-Bradley).
• Experience with HMI integration and robotics in manufacturing.
• Excellent troubleshooting across electrical and control systems.

Responsibilities

• Program, modify, and debug PLC-based control systems for automation equipment.
• Develop new PLC programs and update existing ones.
• Configure I/O, tune control logic, and commission equipment.
• Troubleshoot automation systems during build, testing and startup.
• Select controls components and create wiring diagrams.
• Review electrical designs for accuracy and standards compliance.
• Develop integrated hardware-software control solutions.
• Advance robotics, machine vision, and motion control within equipment.
