Job summary

SMV Recruiting, LLC is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer for the greater Rome, NY area. You will design electrical schematics, develop PLC programs in Allen Bradley and Siemens, and configure HMI screens on production equipment.

Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, 10+ years PLC experience, and hands-on 480V/3-phase electrical work. Travel to multiple plants is expected with mileage reimbursement and a company vehicle. Strong benefits package offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 10+ years of PLC programming experience.
• HMI programming experience required.
• Experience with 480V / 3-phase industrial electrical systems preferred.
• Lean / Continuous Improvement experience a plus; SolidWorks a plus.
• Travel to multiple plant locations may be required.

Responsibilities

• Commission new and upgraded machines — debug, test, and adjust until fully operational
• Design electrical schematics and component layouts in CAD; develop and commission PLC programs in ladder logic using Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms
• Program and configure HMI screens and variable frequency drives across production equipment
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical issues on production machinery — hands-on, on the floor, in real time
• Manage DC-to-AC drive conversion projects — size motors and drives based on power and amp requirements
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers and operations teams; train floor staff on new and updated equipment
• Travel to different company locations to support various teams and divisions

SMV Recruiting, LLC is actively looking for an Electrical Controls Engineer for a manufacturer in the greater Rome, NY area. The ideal candidate must have an engineering degree, hands-on industrial experience, and PLC and HMI programming ability in Allen Bradley and Siemens. This is a local traveling field position with mileage reimbursement and company vehicles available. It is a direct hire role with a salary around $100K–$125K and a strong benefits package.

Responsibilities

• Commission new and upgraded machines — debug, test, and adjust until fully operational
• Design electrical schematics and component layouts in CAD; develop and commission PLC programs in ladder logic using Allen Bradley and Siemens platforms
• Program and configure HMI screens and variable frequency drives across production equipment
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical issues on production machinery — hands-on, on the floor, in real time
• Manage DC-to-AC drive conversion projects — spec correct motor and drive sizes based on power and amp requirements
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers and operations teams; train floor staff on new and updated equipment
• Travel to different company locations to support various teams and divisions

Requirements

• Hands-on 480V / 3-phase industrial electrical experience required
• Expert in PLC programming in ladder logic such as Allen Bradley (RS Logix) and Siemens with 10+ years experience
• HMI programming experience
• Experience with variable frequency drives and electrical schematic design in CAD
• NFPA 70E / Arc Flash familiarity preferred
• Lean / Continuous Improvement experience a plus; SolidWorks a plus
• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
