Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Electrical Controls Engineer is to develop, implement, and support technology to improve equipment, processes, and products. This is accomplished by designing requirements, specifications, drawings, procuring necessary materials and services, and coordinating installation and training for systems including new automation solutions. The engineer will provide expertise in programming and designing PLC controls and interfaces for new equipment and processes. Effective communication with team members at all levels of the organization is essential to enhance our workplace and customer experience.

This position reports to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and is based out of our Anoka, MN office.

What You’ll Do
  • Develop or support project details for new equipment, major repairs, and machinery upgrades.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and improve electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, and systems for the manufacturing plant.
  • Coordinate construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing activities to ensure compliance with specifications and codes.
  • Oversee electrical project efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.
  • Inspect completed installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and safety standards.
  • Consult with engineers and management to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and develop proof of concept applications.
  • Plan and implement research methodologies applying electrical principles to engineering projects.
  • Work on scalable strategic technologies for multiple facilities.
  • Supervise and train electrical team members as necessary.
Experience You Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or controls engineering, or an Associate’s degree with at least 4 years’ experience under an Electrical Engineer.
  • Five or more years’ experience developing and supporting manufacturing solutions using Allen Bradley software, with familiarity with Omron and other industry platforms.
  • Experience with data transfer between machine control systems and IT databases.
  • Proficiency in engineering design and office software (AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.).
  • Experience designing electrical systems in accordance with NEC and OSHA standards.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems, communicate ideas through drawings, sketches, and written proposals.
  • Knowledge of mechanical principles and their interaction with electrical control systems.
  • Skilled in using HMI devices and creating operator interfaces.
  • Understanding of manufacturing control methods and principles.
You Might Have
  • Experience with servo, robotics, SCADA, lasers, vision systems, and other advanced technologies.
  • Hazard analysis, FMEA, and machine guarding risk assessment experience.
  • Familiarity with version control software.
Work Environment

Tasks may involve exposure to hazardous areas, including flammables and explosives. Safety training is provided to ensure compliance with regulations.

Pay Range

$75,800.00 - $106,000.00, with actual salary based on experience, location, education, and skills. We offer competitive compensation and benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401K, PTO, tuition reimbursement, gear discounts, and more.
