Overview

As an electrical controls engineer, you will work on designing electrical control panels, MCCs, and VFD panels for our clients, primarily focusing on low voltage systems (typically 480VAC or less). You will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers to solve problems and execute projects in industrial and manufacturing settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical controls packages based on project needs and process documentation.
  • Adhere to client and department standards and procedures.
  • Apply NEC standards related to project scope.
  • Serve as the primary contact between the electrical discipline, other internal teams, and clients.
  • Develop PLC I/O schematics, panel layouts, and bill of materials.
  • Create three-line diagrams for motor circuits and develop cable schedules and conduit layouts as needed.
  • Prepare construction scopes for installation contractors and assist during installation and onsite startup activities.
  • Work with sales and clients to determine optimal solutions and estimate project timelines and costs.

Qualifications

  • 2 to 6 years of experience as an electrical controls engineer.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Basic AutoCAD schematic and electrical package development experience.
  • Experience with AC & DC motor drives, PLCs, HMIs, I/O hardware, MCCs, and industrial control networks is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and knowledge of industry codes, especially NFPA.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a results-oriented and innovative mindset.
  • Legally eligible to work in the U.S. without sponsorship, possess a valid driver’s license, and be able to travel 20-25% locally and overnight.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional standing, walking, sitting, and manual handling.
  • Vision abilities including close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
  • Ability to perform industrial fieldwork, including in hazardous locations, using ladders and stairs.
