Job description

Electrical Construction Inspector

As part of HDR's Transportation Business Group, the Electrical Construction Inspector will help shape systems that move people and goods safely, efficiently, and sustainably. The role involves inspecting electrical, controls, fiber, and other high/low voltage systems at transportation facilities such as airports, tunnels, bridges, terminals, transit, and ports.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate familiarity with construction materials, methods, and processes for buildings and facilities.
• Conduct inspections of electrical, controls, high/low voltage systems, fiber, and related components at transportation facilities.
• Collaborate with field representatives or Project Managers.
• Read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, identifying discrepancies or conflicts.
• Observe and document construction progress.
• Oversee testing, commissioning, and acceptance of specialized electrical systems.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, NICET Level II certification, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
• 5+ years of experience inspecting electrical power and communications work on major transportation/infrastructure projects for public agencies such as PANYNJ, MTA, NJ Transit, NJTA, NJDOT.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• OSHA 30-hour training.
• PE license in New York or New Jersey.
• Preference given to local candidates.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or 8 years of relevant construction inspection experience can substitute.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Proven problem-solving and documentation abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
