Qualifications

Responsibilities

Electrical Commissioning Technician / Engineer – PLC & Protection Systems

About the Role

SII Group USA is looking for an Electrical Commissioning Technician / Engineer to support the testing, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting of electrical power and control systems for mission-critical projects.

This is a hands-on field role with a strong focus on PLC/Controls and Protection Relays.

We are interested in candidates coming from electrical commissioning, power systems, substations, industrial/process automation, field service, controls, or data-center environments.

Direct Data Center experience is preferred, but not required. Strong PLC/Controls professionals can be trained on power-system applications.

What You’ll Do

• Perform hands-on commissioning, startup, functional testing, and troubleshooting of electrical and control systems.
• Program, test, troubleshoot, and commission PLC-based control systems.
• Perform I/O checkout, logic verification, interlock/permissive testing, and control-sequence validation.
• Configure, test, and troubleshoot protection relays and associated protection/control circuits.
• Perform or support secondary-injection relay testing using Omicron, Megger, or equivalent test equipment.
• Commission and test MV/LV switchgear, breakers, control panels, transformers, and associated electrical systems.
• Verify breaker controls, trip circuits, protection logic, interlocks, and control power.
• Commission and troubleshoot HMI/SCADA systems and communications between PLCs, relays, HMIs, and field devices.
• Support FAT, SAT, site commissioning, energization, functional testing, and system turnover.
• Review electrical one-lines, control schematics, wiring diagrams, I/O lists, and sequences of operation.
• Troubleshoot field issues and coordinate with customers, vendors, contractors, and engineering teams.

What We’re Looking For

Hands-on experience in one or preferably both of the following areas:

PLC / Controls

• Schneider Electric Modicon M340 / M580 / M25x
• PLC programming and online troubleshooting
• I/O checkout and functional testing
• Logic modifications and commissioning
• Industrial communications and networking

Protection Relays

• SEL, Schneider Electric, Siemens, or similar protection relays
• Relay configuration and troubleshooting
• Protection/control logic
• Trip-path and breaker-control verification
• Omicron CMC356, Megger, or equivalent test equipment

Additional Experience That Stands Out

Experience with any of the following is a strong plus:

• IEC 61850 / GOOSE messaging
• Managed/unmanaged industrial network switches
• Modbus TCP/IP, EtherNet/IP, DNP3
• Automatic Throw Over / ATO schemes
• Zone Selective Interlocking (ZSI)
• Breaker control and electrical interlocking
• Load shedding / load restoration
• Generator controls — DSLC / MSLC / EasyGen
• Arc-flash protection
• UPS / emergency power systems
• Mission-critical / Data Center commissioning

Candidate Profile

• Background in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical/Electronics Technology, Power Systems, Controls/Automation, or a related technical discipline.
• Hands-on experience in commissioning, startup, testing, troubleshooting, field service, or system integration.
• Comfortable working directly with customers, vendors, contractors, and engineering teams.
• Able to read and troubleshoot from electrical one-lines, control schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Willing to work 100% on-site / field-based in Dallas, Temple, Austin, or Houston, TX.
• Junior through senior candidates may be considered based on relevant hands-on experience.
