Wildhorse Recruiting seeks an Electrical Commissioning Engineer for AI data centers. This field-based role covers L3–L5 commissioning, from equipment readiness through functional testing and IST, with two weeks onsite and one week offsite.

Electrical Commissioning Engineer — AI Data Centers

Project locations: Pecos, TX; Fort Stockton, TX; and Point Pleasant, WV

Experience level: Mid to senior

Schedule: Two weeks onsite, followed by one week offsite, for candidates who do not wish to relocate. Relocation assistance is available for candidates interested in moving near a project site.

Seeking Electrical Commissioning Engineers to test the low- and medium-voltage systems serving large-scale, liquid-cooled AI data centers. This field-based role supports Level 3 through Level 5 (L3–L5) commissioning, from equipment readiness and startup through functional testing and integrated systems testing.

Responsibilities

• Review electrical one-line diagrams, equipment submittals, specifications, sequences of operation, and commissioning scripts for critical power and cooling-support systems.
• Walk down switchgear, UPS systems, generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), power distribution units (PDUs), busway, and associated low- and medium-voltage distribution. Identify installation deficiencies and incomplete work before energization and testing.
• Coordinate manufacturer startup and review construction QA records, acceptance test results, and equipment documentation to confirm readiness for functional testing.
• Execute and document functional tests of source transfers, UPS operation, generator response, switchgear controls, alarms, interlocks, and downstream power distribution.
• Verify that electrical power monitoring system (EPMS) and building management system (BMS) points, alarms, and trends match equipment operation observed in the field.
• Coordinate NETA acceptance testing, load bank testing, thermography, and power quality testing as required by project specifications. Investigate exceptions and verify corrective actions through retesting.
• Participate in integrated systems testing (IST) of simulated utility loss, equipment failure, source transfer, and recovery sequences. Work with mechanical and controls teams to verify the electrical systems supporting liquid cooling remain available as designed.
• Record test results, maintain deficiency logs, track punchlist resolution, and prepare commissioning reports and turnover documentation.
• Coordinate testing with construction teams, equipment manufacturers, engineers, and other commissioning disciplines while following site safety and electrical work procedures.

Required qualifications

• At least 2 years of electrical commissioning experience, with the technical depth and responsibility appropriate to a mid- or senior-level position.
• Direct, hands-on commissioning experience on data center projects. Candidates should be able to describe the equipment they tested, the procedures they executed, and issues they resolved.
• Experience with low- or medium-voltage critical power equipment, including several of the following: switchgear, UPS systems, generators, ATS, PDUs, and busway.
• Experience with equipment startup, functional performance testing, electrical acceptance testing, load bank testing, or IST.
• Ability to read electrical one-line diagrams, specifications, test scripts, and sequences of operation, and to understand redundant power paths.
• Working knowledge of the NEC/NFPA 70, applicable OSHA requirements, NFPA 70E, and safe electrical work practices.
• Strong field troubleshooting, documentation, and coordination skills.

Preferred experience

• Direct participation in L3–L5 commissioning on hyperscale, AI, or high-performance computing data center projects.
• Experience verifying power distribution to CDUs, liquid cooling controls, or other critical cooling infrastructure.
• Experience reviewing NETA and power quality test results, coordinating thermography, or verifying EPMS/BMS integration.
• Experience leading test activities and resolving deficiencies with contractors and equipment manufacturers.

Schedule and relocation

Candidates who prefer not to relocate can work a two-week onsite, one-week offsite rotation at the project sites. Relocation assistance is available for candidates interested in moving near a project site.
