Job summary

Thor is seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery and commissioning of a hyperscale data center project in El Paso, Texas. You will verify electrical systems are installed, tested, commissioned, and handed over per project specs and industry best practices.

The role requires coordinating testing, reviewing designs, procedures, and turnover documents, and ensuring safety and efficiency through IST, ATS/STS, UPS, generators, PDUs, and RPPs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related technical field.
• 3+ years of commissioning, testing, startup, field engineering, or mission critical experience.
• Experience on data centers, mission critical facilities, power generation, utility infrastructure, or large industrial projects.
• Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems from utility service entrance through critical load.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, protection and control drawings, and electrical specifications.
• Knowledge of commissioning processes and industry standards (NFPA, NEC, IEEE, NETA, OSHA).
• Experience managing multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced construction environment.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Support the planning, coordination, and execution of commissioning activities for electrical systems throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review design documents, commissioning plans, test procedures, and turnover packages for compliance with project requirements.
• Coordinate pre-functional, functional, integrated systems testing (IST), and startup activities.
• Witness and document testing of MV/LV distribution systems, switchgear, UPS, generators, ATS/STS, PDUs, RPPs, busways, grounding.
• Interface with equipment manufacturers and vendors during startup and commissioning activities.
• Track and manage commissioning issues through resolution.
• Review and validate test reports, commissioning documentation, and turnover packages.
• Support IST to verify system functionality under normal and failure scenarios.
• Ensure all activities comply with project safety standards and site procedures.
• Assist with operational readiness and final handover to facility operations teams.
• Maintain detailed records of commissioning progress, deficiencies, and corrective actions.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the planning, coordination, and execution of commissioning activities for electrical systems throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review design documents, commissioning plans, test procedures, and turnover packages for compliance with project requirements.
• Coordinate pre-functional, functional, integrated systems testing (IST), and startup activities.

• Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) distribution systems
• Switchgear
• UPS systems
• Generators
• Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
• Static Transfer Switches (STS)
• Power Distribution Units (PDUs)

• Busway systems
• Grounding and bonding systems

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience commissioning hyperscale or colocation data centers.
• NETA certification (Level II-IV) preferred.
• Commissioning certifications such as ACG, BCxA, or equivalent.
• Experience with Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
• Knowledge of electrical protection coordination and relay testing.
• Experience with SCADA, EPMS, BMS, and monitoring systems.
