Ranken Technical College seeks an Electrical Automation Technology instructor to teach and supervise lab activities, ensuring safe, hands-on learning aligned with industry standards.

Qualifications

  • What candidates must have: an AS degree in Electrical or related field.
  • Five+ years of practical work experience in power distribution, motors, controls, and VFDs.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley SLC/Controllogix platforms and HMI software such as WonderWare, RsView 32, FactoryTalk, and Panelbuilder.
  • Community college or technical school teaching experience preferred; training will be provided.
  • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate students from diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Proficient with MS Office; strong planning and organizational skills; meeting deadlines.

  • Prepares for and teaches Electrical Automation Technology courses and conducts labs as assigned by the division chair.
  • Plans daily activities for students in theory and lab.
  • Supervises students for both theory and technical project grades.
  • Instructs and evaluates students in electrical technology courses, including shop safety.
  • Maintains a safe worksite and enforces safety standards.
  • Assists in maintenance of lab and classroom equipment.
  • Assists management with curriculum development, scheduling, budgeting, hiring, and other duties.
  • Participates in college governance, committees, and student advising.

  • Plans daily activities for students in theory and lab.
  • Supervises students for both theory and technical project grades.
  • Instructs and evaluates students in appropriate electrical technology courses, to include instruction in shop safety.
  • Maintains a safe worksite and enforces Ranken’s safety standards.
  • Assists in the maintenance of lab and classroom equipment.
  • Assists management with developing curriculum and syllabi, scheduling, budgeting, hiring, and other duties.
  • Participates in college governance, committee work, student advising, etc.
  • Participates in available training to keep current in electrical technology.
  • Assists in maintaining requirements of industry standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • AS degree in Electrical or related field.
  • Five years or more of practical work experience in ONE or more of the following:
    • Power distribution, AC and DC motors, controls, and VFDs.
    • DC: basic electrical terms, DC circuit concepts and calculations, analog and digital measuring and test equipment, AC: electrical components such as capacitors, inductors, and transformers that are employed in circuit analysis, transformer principles, RL and RC circuits and impedance, resonance and power factor subjects; test equipment such as oscilloscopes and signal amplifiers.
    • Allen Bradley SLC and Controllogix platforms, application of HMI WonderWare software, RsView 32, FactoryTalk, and Panelbuilder, Ethernet I/P, Data Highway Plus, Device Net, and Control Net.
    • Instrumentation calibration and control loop tuning.
    • NEC and applied commercial wiring and power distribution.
    • Programming experience with HMI software programs, troubleshooting experience with equipment controlled and monitored by PLCs and HMI devices.
  • Community college or technical school teaching experience preferred but we will train.
  • Excellent presentation skills including strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate students of diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Computer literate in MS Office.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills; ability to meet deadlines.
