Rudder Industries designs, fabricates, and integrates rugged marine systems end-to-end in Portland, Maine. We are a small team that values people who own their work and drive projects to completion.

We are seeking a hands‑on Electrical Assembly Technician to build, wire, test, and troubleshoot electrical components and control systems for marine vessels. This role includes cable and harness fabrication, control-box wiring, system installation, and work with low- and high-voltage AC/DC systems.

Qualifications

• Two or more years of hands‑on electrical assembly, wire‑harness fabrication, marine electrical, automotive electrical, or related experience.
• Working knowledge of AC/DC electrical principles and applicable safety practices.
• Proficiency with crimping and soldering tools, wire strippers, heat shrink, multimeters, and continuity testers.
• Ability to read and work from electrical diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting skills, mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, manage parts and inventory, and communicate effectively with teammates.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Read wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings to build and install electrical assemblies.
• Fabricate cables and wire harnesses, including cutting, crimping, soldering, splicing, terminating connectors, labeling, and applying strain relief.
• Build and wire control boxes and install and route electrical systems within enclosures and vessel spaces.
• Test assemblies for correct pinout and continuity and troubleshoot electrical faults using multimeters and other testing tools.
• Identify, source, organize, and reorder components and consumable materials so builds remain on schedule.
• Collaborate with technicians and engineers and maintain accurate documentation of completed work, changes, and test results.

Work covers hull fabrication and outfitting, power and propulsion, hydraulics and mechanical systems, and the control interfaces that make those systems usable at sea.

The Role

We are seeking a hands‑on Electrical Assembly Technician to build, wire, test, and troubleshoot electrical components and control systems for marine vessels. This role includes cable and harness fabrication, control-box wiring, system installation, and work with low- and high-voltage AC/DC systems.

• Working knowledge of AC/DC electrical principles and applicable safety practices.
• Proficiency with crimping and soldering tools, wire strippers, heat shrink, multimeters, and continuity testers.
• Ability to read and work from electrical diagrams, schematics, and technical drawings.
• Strong troubleshooting skills, mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, manage parts and inventory, and communicate effectively with teammates.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Relevant military, vocational, trade‑school, or other demonstrated hands‑on experience may be considered in place of a strict experience requirement.

Experience with marine or ABYC wiring practices, high‑voltage battery or propulsion systems, CAN bus wiring, or Deutsch, AMP/TE, or MIL‑spec connectors is preferred.

This is an on‑site, hands‑on role in a shop and build‑floor environment, with occasional work aboard vessels and in tight spaces. Candidates must be able to use required PPE, work in varied physical positions, and lift up to 50 pounds. Occasional additional hours or overtime may be required.
