Position: Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer

The Opportunity:
This position supports E&I maintenance activities in the Covington mill. Work with production, maintenance and engineering departments on projects related to continuing process improvement and equipment reliability.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
- As an E&I Engineer, you will lead and drive continuous improvement in your assigned area with a focus on reliability-centered maintenance.
- Management of small-to-medium-sized capital projects.
- Develop and maintain preventative maintenance plans: AC & DC motors, AC & DC drives, PLC’s, operator interfaces, Power distribution equipment with voltages up to 13,800 volts, protective relaying, measurement of temperature, level, pressure, flow, analytical devices, control valves and other E/I systems.
- Coordinate/provide training for journeyman, supervisors, and other engineers on E&I equipment.
- Provide troubleshooting guidance on a wide range of E&I systems.
What you need to succeed:
- BS in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
- 2+ years of heavy industrial environment experience with large motors, variable speed drives, power distribution, PLCs and Instrumentation
- Training and knowledge with OSHA, NEC and NFPA-70E requirements.
- Strong troubleshooting experience and the ability to perform root cause analysis of issues.
- Ability to create, promote and work within a team concept to initiate and manage change and improved overall equipment reliability.
- Organizational skills, communication, documentation, and formal/informal reporting required.
- Ability to effectively direct/supervise union hourly work force.
- Work with the E&I Superintendent on the development and tracking of the maintenance budget.
Normal work hours 6:30 am - 5:00 pm Mon-Thur, with the occasional need to work longer hours, holidays, and weekends to support the 24/7 operation during outages. Weekday and weekend duty call rotation is an expectation.
