Job summary

Smurfit Westrock plc in Fernandina Beach, FL is seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician to support continuous pulp and paper production. The role focuses on maintenance of electrical, instrumentation, and control systems to maximize equipment run time.

You will troubleshoot, repair, and install devices, interpret diagrams, and document work orders while working a rotating shift with overtime as needed. A High School Diploma/GED and Journeyman training are preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Instrumentation and Electrical experience in a production maintenance environment.
• Journeyman or completion of related college or apprenticeship program preferred.
• Must be able to read and understand Electrical and Instrumentation Drawings and PLC Ladder Logic.
• Willing to work weekends/holidays with rotating shifts and overtime as needed.
• Experience with 480-volt 3-Phase power distribution and Controls.

We are seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician for the Fernandina Beach Mill facility. The successful Smurfit Westrock E & I Technician will support the manufacturing of Pulp and Paper by providing quality maintenance duties to the mill’s equipment reliability and availability. Smurfit Westrock is a team-based environment. The E&I technician will utilize their skills and knowledge of electrical equipment, electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics, and rigging, in our continuous pulp and paper process manufacturing environment to achieve equipment run ability.

Job Duties:

Troubleshoot, repair, and/or replace electrical, electronic and instrumentation devices.

Interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to troubleshoot and maintain process control systems.

Initiate and complete work-orders and document all critical and or pertinent information on a routine basis.

What you need to succeed:

• Strong Electrical and Mechanical aptitude required with extensive troubleshooting experience.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair mill wide electrical power systems, working with AC and DC voltages ranging from 12, 24 and 500 VDC to 120/240, 480, 2300, 4,160 to 13,800 and AC.
• Install and maintain electrical distribution equipment and components, working with electrical conductors, conduit, cable trays, power panels, motor control centers.
• An operational knowledge of automated industrial machinery including motors, solenoids, servos, pumps, drives, relays, 3 phase power, communication devices, industrial / electronic controls, and power transmission systems
• Ability to install and set up both A/C and D/C drives.
• Ability to install and troubleshoot basic 3-phase motor control circuits
• Knowledge of the various types of flow, pressure, level, temperature sensors and transmitters.
• Working knowledge of control valves
• Various proximity, flow, pressure, and limit switches.
• A good understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• PLC troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
• Must be able to read and interpret both electrical and instrumentation drawings
• Must be fully computer literate with Microsoft environment
• Good written and verbal communication skill

What you need to succeed:

• High School Diploma / GED is required
• 5+ years of Instrumentation and Electrical experience in a production maintenance environment or equivalent military experience is required.
• Journeyman or proof of completion of related college or apprenticeship program, preferred.
• Computer skills including MS Office and ability to quickly learn new software used in the department.
• Strong electrical background with experience in 480-volt 3-Phase power distribution and Controls.
• Basic understanding of Programable Logic Controllers and Distributed Control Systems.
• Ability to read and understand Electrical and Instrumentation Drawings and PLC Ladder Logic.
• Capable of meeting physical requirements to include working weekends/holidays, of working a rotating shift schedule, including weekends and overtime as needed, work around heat, noise, both inside and outside .
• Experience with variable frequency drives and smart field instruments (i.e., pressure, flow, temperature, level and analytical transmitters, valve positioners, valve actuators and PID controllers) is necessary.
