Job summary

WestRock Company in Evadale, TX seeks a Senior Electrical Reliability Engineer to investigate and resolve electrical reliability issues within the mill. You will work with Maintenance, Mill Leadership, and EMS to identify safety and reliability opportunities and assist in outages and shutdowns.

You will serve as SME for design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of electrical systems, including power distribution, motors, VFDs, relays, UPS, grounding, and protections.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering preferred.
• 5+ years of electrical engineering experience in manufacturing.
• Knowledge of safe electrical work practices and industry codes.
• Experience with three-phase systems, motors, drives, protections schemes, and controls.
• Familiarity with CMMS systems (SAP, Passport, JDE).

Responsibilities

• Investigate and resolve electrical reliability issues at the mill.
• Provide SME guidance for design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of electrical systems.
• Assist outage planning and execution.
• Support RCA efforts and implement reliability improvements.
• Develop and optimize PM programs for electrical equipment.
• Participate in weekend call rotations and stay current with NEC/NFPA70E standards.

The Opportunity:

As the Sr Engineer, Elec Rel, Mill, your primary responsibility is investigating and resolving electrical reliability issues within the facility. Maintain close working interaction with the maintenance Team (Mechanical and Electrical) along with other stakeholders such as Mill Leadership, Production, Corporate Reliability Group (EMS), Key 3rd party contractors (OEM's consultants, etc.) and SMEs within Smurfit WestRock to identify and resolve safety and reliability opportunities of the electrical assets at the mill. Assist in outage and shutdown execution as required.

How you will impact Smurfit WestRock:

• Subject Matter Expert, SME for the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of critical Electrical Systems and Equipment. Electrical Equipment including Power Generation and distribution, Transformers, Switchgear, Protection Relays, Electrical Switching Low and high voltage motors and starters, UPS and battery charger systems, Variable Frequency Drives/soft Starters, Electrical Actuators, grounding systems, Lighting, Cathodic Protections, Portable Electrical Equipment etc.
• Maintain close working interaction with the maintenance Team (Mechanical and Electrical) along with other stakeholders such as Mill Leadership, Production, Corporate Reliability Group (EMS), Key 3rd party contractors (OEM's consultants, etc.) and SMEs within Smurfit WestRock to identify and resolve safety and reliability opportunities of the electrical assets at the mill.
• Provide technical expertise to improve electrical equipment reliability by evaluating and/or redesigning equipment and systems. Work to improve the integrity and reliability of all low, medium, and high voltage electrical installations, systems, and equipment for the facility. This includes but not limited to reliability improvements by developing engineering solutions to repetitive failures and other issues that adversely affect plant equipment operations, project management and trouble -shooting roles.
• Support training Electrical programs for maintenance and operations personnel for safe and reliable operation and maintenance of lant power distribution systems.
• Lead or support RCA efforts in areas of expertise and report outs. Compiling recommendations and implementation/close-out and follow-ups.
• Support development and optimization of PMs for all the electrical equipment while ensuring the reliability and availability of electrical equipment throughout the facility through the effective PM and PDM strategies to prevent and resolve equipment failures.
• Assist outage planning and developing electrical work scopes and execution plans.
• Design and implement long-term continuous improvement projects and systems to improve electrical reliability.
• Participate in weekend call support on a rotating basis.
• Remain current on electrical standards, techniques, and practices, and thorough understanding of electrical standards (NEC, NFPA70E etc.).
• Experience with synchronous motor maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Lead electrical cold mill outage team, including temporary power setup and execution.

What you need to succeed:

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is preferred.
• 5 + years of work experience in electrical engineering in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of safe electrical work practices and understanding of industry codes.
• Knowledge of and experience with three phase electrical systems.
• Knowledge of AC and DC electric motors and motor controls and electrical protections schemes.
• Knowledge of instrumentation, PLCs, and controls.
• Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook as well as familiar with CMMS systems like (SAP, Passport, JDE etc.).
• Knowledge of relay coordination, arc flash hazard and short circuit analysis is preferred.
