Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Line Mechanic at our West Virginia service area to build on the Line Mechanic D program. This role involves constructing, maintaining and troubleshooting overhead/underground lines, with responsibilities in switching, grounding, and restoration.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and a formal lineworker program; CDL Class A is mandatory for higher levels.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Completion of an accredited lineworker program or line school is preferred for entry-level candidates.
Minimum one year of distribution electrical power line work experience for Line Mechanic C.
Must reside within 45 minutes of Huntington or Logan service centers.
Valid state's driver's license; CDL required for higher classifications.

Responsibilities

Construct, install, maintain, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and remove electric distribution facilities, conductors, cables, transformers, fixtures, poles, structures, and equipment.
Perform line work on energized and de-energized systems per safety requirements and progression level.
Assist with switching, sectionalizing, grounding, and restoration tasks to ensure reliable service.
Operate and maintain company equipment and document apprenticeship progress and operational information.
Communicate with customers about service interruptions and requirements.
Progress through line progression with training, examinations and performance assessments.
