Job summary

NAVFAC is seeking qualified applicants for anticipated vacancies in electrical power operations. The position involves operating, maintaining, and repairing electrical generating equipment, from exciters to transformers, and leading a team of journeyman Electric Power Controllers.

Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of power generation and distribution, monitor voltage, perform troubleshooting, and implement the power plant maintenance program under the Utilities Supervisor.

Summary

This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies.

Duties

• You will operate, maintain and repair all assigned electrical generating equipment such as: Exciters, alternators, DC generators and control circuits, voltage controls, battery backup system, switchgear and transformers.
• You will ensure the care, inspection, certification and replacement of all safety equipment.
• You will perform simple repairs to the high voltage distribution system such as cutouts, fuses, lightning arrestors, opening and closing circuit switches, etc.
• You will advise and implement the power plant maintenance program, interprets work instructions from the Utilities Supervisor.
• You will perform leadership duties by demonstrating proper operating methods and explains any unusual steps and processes.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. • 1) Perform as a working leader for a group of journeyman Electric Power Controllers and High Voltage Electricians. Perform leadership duties and explain any unusual steps and processes. Crew supervisor and senior person in response to direct emergency services.
• 2) Possess journey level knowledge and skill in controlling the generation or distribution of electric power in power generating plants, power distribution centers, and substations.
• 3) Operation of power generation and distribution systems supporting a myriad of industrial and residential operations on the Naval base. Operates control panels that allow remote starting of diesel engine powered generators as well as monitoring commercial power and conversion to auxiliary power systems.
• 4) Monitoring of voltage and amperage and make exacting adjustments to the system to assure adequate power for load demands.
• 5) Skill in reading/analyzing a variety of interrelated meter indications to detect abnormal conditions such as, circuit overloads, improper line voltages, or equipment temperature; and skill to determine the causes of these abnormal conditions and make necessary corrections by adjusting controls.
