  • Experience with FEA tools and programming preferred.

The Electric Machine Design Engineering Intern will work with the Electric Machine Design team to develop new analysis methods, support active engineering projects, and contribute to the design, analysis, and optimization of electric machines for real-world automotive applications.

Job Purpose

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as an Electric Machine Design Engineering Intern in our Summer Internship Program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide electric machine design and analysis of
  • IPM machines
  • Induction machines
  • New Electric Machine Products
  • Generate and prove out new concepts in core product areas (machines, control, cooling)
  • Develop and utilize multi-physics design optimization tools
  • Provide inverter/machine system co-simulation
  • Develop magnetic equivalent circuit design/analysis tools
  • Maxwell 2D & 3D (Magnetic FEA)
  • MotorCAD
  • Matlab/Simulink
  • Development of electric machine analysis methods into custom tools
  • Support active projects and new business opportunities
  • Explore AI opportunities for electric machine design and analysis
  • Support custom analysis tool development and maintenance

What We Are Looking For

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited college, university pursuing post-graduate studies
  • GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or B average, upon initial hire date
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required; MSME degree preferred
  • Educational specialization in Electric Machine Design and analysis preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required
  • Proficiency in electromagnetic FEA solvers preferred
  • ANSYS MotorCAD experience preferred
  • ANSYS Maxwell experience preferred
  • Proficiency in MatLab/Simulink experience preferred
  • Proficiency in Python experience preferred
  • Excellent people skills and history of teamwork required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Knowledge of common electric motor materials and coolants preferred
  • Desire to work in the automotive industry preferred
  • Ability to solve problems efficiently and effectively
  • Analytical, technical, and statistical skills
  • Good knowledge base of engineering theories
