Job summary

Xcel Energy is seeking an internship in Newport, RI to support electrical distribution design tasks, including project management, GIS/mapping, field visits, and billing. You will collaborate with IT programs, construction, and other departments to deliver services to customers.

The internship starts May 24, 2027 and may extend based on performance and business needs, with a hybrid work arrangement and opportunities to learn and grow within the energy sector.

Qualifications

• Current student enrolled in an ABET-accredited college/university pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Project Management or Construction Management.
• Willingness to travel to project sites for design planning, site readiness, and customer meetings.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours/week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours/week) and commute to the designated work location per hybrid policy.

This intern position will assist with Electric Distribution Design tasks, including project management, GIS/mapping, visiting project sites for field work, billing, and other office tasks as needed. This position will work with the Company’s various IT programs, construction, and other departments to provide electric services/requests to our customers.

This position is for a May 24, 2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements

• Current student, Sophomore or higher Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management
• Travel to job sites for project design planning, construction site readiness, customer meetings.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $18.90 to $22.10 per hour
