Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering a summer internship for Electrical Engineering students in Wisconsin. The role supports distribution reliability, outage investigations, and protection studies.

You will work with engineers on capital projects and field visits to substations and facilities. The position is designed for a May 24, 2027 start, with part-time options during the school year and full-time in the summer, following a hybrid work policy at designated locations, and compensation of $21.20–$24.60

Qualifications

  • Currently a student, Sophomore or higher.
  • Enrolled in an ABET-accredited college or university pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours/week) or part-time during the school year (up to 20 hours/week).

Responsibilities

  • Support electric distribution reliability and outage investigations, including CEMI/DEMI analysis.
  • Assist with protection and coordination studies for distribution feeders and equipment.
  • Support capital project development and distribution system improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in field visits to substations, distribution facilities, and construction projects.
  • Utilize engineering software and databases to evaluate system performance and operating conditions.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technical staff to solve real-world electric utility challenges.

Start Details

This position is for a May24,2027 start date. This position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internship’s initial term based on the candidate’s successful performance and Xcel Energy’s business needs.

Minimum Requirements
  • Current student, Sophomore or higher
  • Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy
