Job summary

Memorial Hermann is seeking a Certified Surgical Tech for Elective Services at the Texas Medical Center in Houston. The role is full-time with three 12-hour shifts (10:30am–11pm) and requires call coverage.

A CST and BLS certification are required, with 5+ years of surgical tech experience preferred in General, GYN, Urology, and related areas. The position supports perioperative patient care as a scrub assistant under RN direction, performing duties to ensure efficient case flow and aseptic

Qualifications

• Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Program.
• Certified in Basic Life Support; NBSTSA or NCCT certification.
• Experience levels: New Grad <1 year; Surg Tech I 1 year; Surg Tech II 2–4 years; Surg Tech III 5+ years.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates knowledge and practice of perioperative patient care concepts; performs independently as first scrub in assigned specialty areas.
• Supports readiness and flow of cases to facilitate unit function.
• Verifies supplies/instruments/equipment prior to procedures; applies asepsis principles for optimal patient care in the OR.

Job Summary

Certified Surgical Tech, Elective Services

• Full time; 10:30am-11pm (3 12hr shifts, days varied)
• Call required
• CST and BLS (American Heart Association) required
• 5-7+ years of surgical tech experience preferred
• Experience in General, GYN, and Urology preferred
• Experience in ENT/OMF and Ophthalmology a plus
• Elective Services consist of ENT, OMF, Eyes, General Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, Bariatrics, and Robotics

This position is located at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center.

Position is responsible for providing competent perioperative patient care through the use of equipment and instrumentation. Position functions as scrub assistant to the physician performing operative and/or invasive procedures. Works under the direction of a Registered Nurse and as outlined in the Surgical Technologist Skills Inventory.

Position must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served as well as knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Program.

Licenses/Certifications: Certified in Basic Life Support; current certification as a Surgical Technologist by the National Board of Surgical Technology & Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).

Experience / Knowledge / Skills:

• New Grad <1 year
• Surg Tech I = 1 year
• Surg Tech II = 2-4 years
• Surg Tech III = 5+ years

Principal Accountabilities

• Demonstrates knowledge and practice of perioperative patient care concepts; demonstrates the ability to perform independently as first scrub in assigned specialty areas.
• Provides support for readiness and flow of cases to facilitate overall functioning of the unit, performing assigned duties as needed.
• Verifies functioning and adequate availability of supplies/instruments/equipment prior to the surgical procedure as indicated by the surgeon’s preference card and other available resources; demonstrates the application of the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner that provides for optimal patient care in the OR.
• Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
• Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
