Job summary

The State of North Carolina - Elections is seeking a Data Analyst to support the State Board of Elections with data-driven decision making. This onsite role in Wake County, NC builds business intelligence capabilities, analyzes election data for integrity, and delivers reports and dashboards for stakeholders.

You will maintain data quality, support investigations and audits, and assist with database and GIS tasks to improve oversight and fiscal transparency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or IT-related field with 1 year of programming/applications analysis experience; or
• Associate degree with 2 years of experience; or
• High School/GED with 5 years of experience; or
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applicable to a range of agency functions (elections, finance, HR, operations, compliance).
• Ability to communicate data insights to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Excel) and reporting for multiple departments.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage the agency’s BI strategy emphasizing data integrity validation and detection of irregularities.
• Analyze data for completeness, accuracy, and compliance; investigate inconsistencies and root causes.
• Create complex, dynamic reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain and enhance data visualization platforms (Power BI, Tableau, SSRS, MS Report Builder) for investigative workflows.
• Build and refine data models reflecting source systems and surface data quality and operational risks.
• Collaborate with agency units to design dashboards revealing trends, anomalies, and risks.
• Develop predictive analytics and advanced visualizations to strengthen decision making.
• Analyze operational data to identify inefficiencies or noncompliance.
• Review fiscal data to identify anomalies; participate in audits and evaluations.
• Serve as internal consultant to interpret analytics findings and improve processes.
