Job summary

The New York Times Election Analytics team is hiring an experienced data developer to create and manage data sources for our election coverage. You will build pipelines, ensure data quality, and improve observability across the model and related applications.

You will work with analysts, reporters, and engineers to support real-time election-night data products, dashboards, and graphics, reporting to the Director of Election Analytics.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of relevant experience in data development or analytics.
  • Experience with data-oriented programming languages such as R or Python.
  • Experience with cloud providers like GCP or AWS.
  • Experience working with large datasets and data management best practices.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule to support elections coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Create test data for the election-night model and graphics.
  • Build and improve pipelines for ingesting, processing, and displaying large datasets.
  • Develop observability tools for model and data monitoring, enabling fast debugging on election night.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data needs and schema requirements.
  • Develop and maintain libraries in R that form the basis of internal apps.
  • Balance engineering speed with the demands of news delivery.
  • Support the newsroom with data-driven insights and uphold journalistic independence.
