Job summary

The New York Times Company is seeking an elections analytics fellow in New York to contribute to data-driven coverage of American elections. You will join the Election Analytics team producing The New York Times/Siena University Poll, the live election-night forecast known as The Needle and our polling tracker, and related stories.

This in-office fellowship offers some remote flexibility and requires collaboration across reporters, editors, developers and statisticians.

Qualifications

• No more than five years of full-time, professional journalism experience.
• Deep understanding of American elections.
• Experience working with data.
• Data-driven reporting and statistics.
• Proficiency with R or Python.
• Development with cloud computing and productionized web applications.

Responsibilities

• Contribute original analyses of polls, voter registration trends and election results for articles or graphics.
• Increase team understanding through data collection, scraping, statistical analysis and reporting.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the newsroom.
• Uphold journalistic independence and the mission to seek the truth.
