Reports to: Assistant Director of Social Services

Job Status: Full-Time

Type: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, the Elders Kitchen Assistant Coordinator will assist with shopping, prepare and cook lunch, set up and break down tables, clean up for the Elders Program. Pre- clean and sanitize food preparation and serving areas, cooking utensils, and serving ware prior to any preparation of meals. Clean kitchen and cafeteria after meals. Collect $ 5.00 from anyone that is under 55 years of age that participates in the Elders luncheon daily. Will assist with the ordering of food. Will manage daily waste and portion control log; daily tracking of meals served and delivered.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pre-Title VI requirements must maintain a sign-in sheet for Elders and record the number of Elders served each day.

  • Stay in compliance with Health Codes pre-clean and sanitize food preparation and serving areas, cooking utensils, and serving ware prior to and preparation of meals.
  • Assist cooking nutritional meal as outlined in Title VI Grant in quantities according to the menu and the number of participants to be served.
  • Clean and sanitize dishes (after each meal), utensils, tables, counters, and kitchen equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized kitchen and dining area at all times. Perform duties in an orderly, safe manner, for your safety and the safety of elders.
  • Ensure to use extreme caution when using hazardous equipment Ensure all hazardous materials and equipment supplies are kept in a secure location when not in use.
  • Assist with shopping for each week's meals.
  • Count each meal served, amount of food used in preparing meals and food not used
  • Date all packed foods.
  • Discard outdated foods and log discarded items.
  • Keep a inventory of food when it comes in
  • Ensure portion control with little to no waste.
  • Recode daily cash sales, prepare a weekly cash log and turn into accounting on Fridays
  • Other duties assigned
  • Maintain food production records as required by Title VI guidelines.
OTHER DUTIES:

Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to regular responsibilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are requiredfor the incumbent considered for this position.

REQUIRED EDUCATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND TESTING FOR POSITION:
  • High School Graduate or GED equivalent
  • Culinary degree and two years directly related experience

Or

  • Five years directly related experience
REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES POSITION:
  • Possess the ability to accept direction
  • Demonstrate professionalism and contribute to a positive work environment
  • Must have basic math skills for collecting daily money for meals sold to individuals 55 and younger
  • Effectively use verbal, writing and listening skill
  • Maintain an acceptable attendance record and is punctual
  • Know how to organize and prioritize work and delivery time
  • Contributes to day-to-day smooth running of unit or process
  • React productively to interruptions and changing conditions
REQUIRED CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Must pass alcohol/drug test at time of hire and throughout employment
  • Must pass criminal background check at time of hire and periodically thereafter.
REQUIRED LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Must have and maintain throughout employment a valid Washington State Driver's License and meet the insurability requirements of the Tribe
  • Must have and maintain throughout employment a Food Handlers Permit
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS {The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job}:

The standard work week is 8:30-5:00 Monday through Friday

  • Must be able to lift 20 + lbs.
  • Standing and walking for long periods of time.
  • Ability to listen, understand customers, and have the ability to translate rules, regulations, and policies
  • Visual abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to focused
  • Required to use hands and fingers and reach with hands and arms.
