Job summary

Common Ground High School is seeking an English Language Arts Teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. The 1.0 FTE position requires CT English certification or equivalent, and involves teaching ELA to grades 9-12. You will collaborate with colleagues, develop materials, analyze data, and engage families to support student learning.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed, equity-focused instruction within a small, creative faculty, and uses Google tools and online platforms for instruction.

Qualifications

• Hold CT English certification (015) or CT Remedial Reading & Remedial Language Arts (102) or CT Special Teacher of Reading (063) or English endorsement.
• Experience teaching ELA to high school students (grades 9–12).
• Ability to develop materials and lesson plans for varied instructional needs.
• Experience collaborating with department colleagues and special education team.
• Ability to analyze student performance data to inform instruction.
• Strong classroom management to maximize learning time.

Responsibilities

• Teach ELA elective courses for grades 9-12.
• Be a strong team member within Common Ground’s faculty; teach an elective or support instruction for one period daily.
• Develop materials and lesson plans for varied learners.
• Collaborate with department and special education colleagues.
• Review student performance data and maintain records.
• Promote family engagement in the student’s educational progress.
