Job summary

IMDiversity seeks an EL Teacher at Graham Park MS in Triangle, VA for a 195-day schedule. The role requires on-site presence and focuses on accelerating English language acquisition for multilingual learners across math, language arts, science and social studies.

The teacher serves as a liaison between ELs, families and teachers, implements EL program procedures, and provides Sheltered Instruction. This position emphasizes collaboration, cultural responsiveness, and ongoing professional learning

Qualifications

• Knowledge of second language acquisition and acculturation processes.
• Knowledge of research, legal requirements, program models, and methodological approaches specific to multilingual learners.
• Knowledge of techniques for teaching English, reading, and content to multilingual learners.
• Knowledge of approved assessments used for program placement and monitoring of student achievement.
• Knowledge of administrative procedures in implementing a formal EL program that is in compliance with all laws regarding requirements for English Learners.
• Native or near-native proficiency in all the skills of understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in English is required

Responsibilities

• Delivers rigorous Sheltered Instruction to ELs to accelerate English and content knowledge.
• Collaborates with school staff to co-plan, co-teach, and co-assess as scheduling requires.
• Monitors progress and advocates for ELs’ participation in all aspects of their academic schedule, school activities, and programs as appropriate.
• Maintains ongoing communication with EL families in comprehensible language and utilizes interpretation resources as applicable.
• Implements PWCS EL Program procedures and maintains required documentation.
