Job summary

South Bend Community School Corp is seeking an Instructional Resource Specialist for Navarre Middle School to support English Learner programs. The role focuses on supplemental English Language Development, tutoring, and translations under the direction of bilingual leadership.

Ideal candidates have 60 college credits or an associate degree, bilingual ability, and strong communication and organizational skills; evening hours may be required. Starting date is immediate.

Qualifications

• Able to pass English Language Proficiency Assessment (oral).
• Pass ParaPro Assessment (if applicable).

Responsibilities

• Assist in supplemental English Language Development instruction (vocabulary and language development, guided interaction strategies, reading comprehension strategies, use of modeling, realia, graphic organizers and visuals, etc.).
• Assist in identifying students for tutoring and tutor students as assigned based on language needs.
• Relay student progress information in English Language Development to the certified classroom teacher.
• Participate in professional development supporting ELD principles and strategies.
• Assist with translations and interpretations for students and families; assist with parent/teacher conferences.
• Attend all Bilingual Services Department staff meetings and building meetings.
• Carry out policies and procedures of the South Bend Community School Corporation.
• Complete Time/Task logs daily and submit to the Program Coordinator monthly.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Candidate should have the ability to understand and accept the Mission of the South Bend Community School Corporation in reference to the education of English Learners (ELs). Candidate should have basic knowledge of second language acquisition and its terminology. Candidate must be able to work with a linguistically and culturally diverse group of individuals.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist in supplemental English Language Development instruction (vocabulary and language development, guided interaction strategies, reading comprehension strategies, use of modeling, realia, graphic organizers and visuals, etc.) under the direction of a certified classroom teacher
• Assist in identifying students for tutoring
• Tutor students as assigned based on their specific language development skill needs and/or homework
• Relay student progress information in English Language Development to the certified classroom teacher on an ongoing basis
• Participate in professional development activities that support supplemental English Language Development principles and strategies
• Assist with translations, written documents and interpretations (oral), for students and their families (if applicable), includes interpretations for SPED assessments
• Assist with parent/teacher conferences when needed
• Attend all Bilingual Services Department staff meetings and building meetings
• Carry out policies and procedures of the South Bend Community School Corporation
• Use time effectively
• Complete Time/Task logs daily and submit to the Program Coordinator in the BSD on the last day of each month

SPECIAL NOTATION:

The position requires a flexible scheduling of work responsibilities and, at times, evening work.
