Job summary

Grand Rapids Public Schools Harrison Park School (PreK-8) seeks an EL Paraprofessional to support English Learner scholars and assist teachers with instructional planning. The role focuses on providing additional time for teachers to plan and reinforcing concepts for EL students.

You will work as part of a collaborative team, help with classroom displays, manage materials, and support scholars’ academic and social development within a positive EL climate.

Qualifications

• Must have completed at least two years of study (60 credits) or an associate's degree or passed the MDE-approved ETS paraprofessional assessment.
• Ability to work with scholars, parents, staff and community in a tactful and courteous manner.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with organizational abilities and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Present lessons to individual scholars or small groups under guidance of the teacher.
• Assist with loading/unloading buses and supervise recess when needed.
• Inform the teacher of scholars' needs or concerns and act on guidance.
• Assist with medical and grooming needs of scholars when necessary.
• Help prepare displays of scholar work and manage materials and equipment.
• Interact with colleagues, administration, scholars, parents & community in a positive, cooperative manner.
• Work outdoors daily and participate in 12 hours of EL Professional Development.
