Job summary

Albemarle County Public Schools in Virginia is seeking an EL Instructional Liaison for the 2026-27 school year to develop and implement the language assistance program for English Learners and coordinate the International Welcome Center.

You will work with administrators, teachers, and division staff to identify ESOL students, place them in programs, and oversee assessments and transcripts, ensuring equitable opportunities across language and culture.

Qualifications

• Must hold Virginia teaching certificate or be eligible.
• Graduate degree in TESOL, reading, curriculum, administration, social work, or related field.
• Minimum of four years of ESOL teaching experience, including at least two years in a mentor or leadership role.
• Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates, assists in, and supervises the identification, assessment, and placement of international and ESOL students in ACPS in collaboration with the International Welcome Center.
• Schedules international, immigrant, refugee, and other-language-speaking K-12 students in appropriate language assistance programs based on intake assessments and family consultation.
• Evaluates international transcripts, assigns credits, and collaborates with counselors to align with state graduation requirements.
• Creates Embassy Report Cards and Attendance Letters for international students returning to their home countries to ensure transferrable credits.
• Collaborates with division and school leadership to ensure adequate staffing and funding of language assistance programs.
• Provides leadership and support in PLCs around instructional needs of linguistically diverse students.
• Attends SBIT meetings to advise on progress monitoring and supports for EL students.
• Delivers professional development on policy and best practices in language instruction for linguistically diverse learners.
