Job summary

Baystate Health is seeking an experienced EKG Technician to perform and document electrocardiogram procedures, apply holter monitors, and support a clinical team in a dynamic hospital setting.

The role requires independence, accuracy, and the ability to educate students and peers while maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Basic Life Support – American Heart Association
• 3 years of EKG experience
• 1 year of holter experience

Responsibilities

• Provide age-appropriate care to patients. Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages for the following age groups and applies developmental theories and concepts when planning and implementing care for patients.
• Maintains equipment in a clean and proper working order. Cleans all equipment and patient care areas daily according to procedure.
• Communicates supply needs to coordinator/supervisor. Determines the need for replacement supplies before depletion.
• Consistently performs all EKG procedures independently and accurately, including specifications provided by the clinical director of the EKG department.
• Applies holter monitors according to procedure and verifies initial holter signal. Instructs patients on use of the holter monitor.
• When scanning holters, documents pertinent electrocardiogram information with 90-95% accuracy according to procedure.
• Functions as a preceptor/mentor for students, fellows, peers, and PCTs.

Summary

Under the direction of the EKG Medical Director, the incumbentis expectedto adhere to system and department compliance policies and any applicable laws and regulations.

Prepares patients for testing and performs the test.This includes knowledge and support functions for SMS, CIS, Muse and Mars software systems.Appliesholtermonitor and instructs patient in use.Scans, documents pertinent informationwith accuracy and reports life threateningdysrhythmias to physicians.

Works well as part of a team or independently.Maintains a positive, professional, compassionate attitude towards patients and fellow healthcare providers.

Job Responsibilities

• 1) Provide age-appropriate care to patients. Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages for the following age groups and applies developmental theories and concepts when planning and implementing care for patients. Age groups:Neonate, Infant & Toddler, Children, Adolescent, Adult.
• 2) Maintains equipment in a clean and proper working order. Cleans all equipment and patient care areas daily according to procedure.Carries out minor adjustments to equipment whenever necessary according to department procedure and indicated log failures in the book.Notifies the coordinator/supervisor of serious malfunctions immediately
• 3) Communicates supply needs to coordinator/supervisor. Determines the need for replacement supplies before depletion.Evaluates inventory to ensure adequate supplies and review expiration dates.Stores supply inappropriate sites as instructed by the supervisor.
• 4) Consistently performs all EKG procedures independently and accurately, including specifications provided by the clinical director of the EKG department. Acquires and Processes acquisition data, thus providing the interpreting physician with a high-quality diagnostic study.Responsible for accurately documenting dataintothecomputer information systems, e.g., SMS, CIS, Muse systems, etc.
• 5) Appliesholtermonitors according to procedure and verifies initial holter signal.Instructs patients on use of the holtermonitor according to procedure and explains the importance of their journal. Removesholtermonitor, prepares and cleans according to established procedures. Processesholtermonitor, uploads and verifies data transfer to Mars software for scanning according to department procedure.
• 6) When scanningholters, documents pertinent electrocardiogram information with 90-95% accuracy according toprocedureasobserved by random monthly review of computer screens.Reports potentially life‑threatening electrocardiogram dysrhythmiaslistingin procedure to physicians with fewer than 1-2 errors/incidents per month
• 7) Functions as a preceptor/mentor for students, fellows, peers, and PCTs.Demonstrates enthusiasm and patience and provides honest, constructive feedback. Actively seeks and is receptive to honest feedback from the healthcare team in a way to improve quality and performance

Typically, a new hire can expect a starting salary somewhere in the lower part of the range. Actual salaries may vary by position and will be determined based on the candidate's relevant experience. No employee will be paid below the minimum of the range. Pay ranges are listed as hourly for non-exempt employees and based on assumed full time commitment for exempt employees.
