An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Preschool Teacher to deliver a well-planned, developmentally appropriate curriculum for young children. This role emphasizes teamwork, effective communication with parents, and compliance with child care regulations. 1. General Character of Duties and Supervisory Control: The Teacher will deliver a well-planned, developmentally appropriate curriculum for assigned children. Teamwork and positive attitudes toward others, especially parents, are essential, along with compliance with all child care / Head Start regulations. Child safety, including counting and locating children, is crucial.
2. Example of Specific Duties: Assess children's developmental levels and plan programs to meet their individual needs. Organize the classroom to optimize the environment for the curriculum. Write and implement lesson and individualization plans using an internet-based system. Involve parents in their child's education and encourage participation. Supervise Teacher Assistants, Volunteers, and other staff, providing training and conducting home visits. Complete data management forms, secure in-kind donations, and handle tasks related to cleaning and playground safety/security.
3. Minimum Qualifications: The Preschool Teacher should possess knowledge of child growth and development, with the ability to communicate effectively with children and adults. A degree in early childhood education (or equivalent coursework) is required, with at least one year's experience in a center or a Tennessee Pre-K endorsement. The Early Head Start teacher may qualify as a Child Development Associate (or similar credential) with an infant/toddler endorsement, possibly with a waiver if enrolled in a training program with written approvals. Fluency in the language used by the majority of families served is required.
4. Desired Qualifications: Baccalaureate degree in Early Childhood from a regionally accredited institution, extensive experience with young children in group settings, experience managing a child care center, high computer proficiency, CDL holder, Spanish or dual language training are pluses.
5. Other Significant Facts: A pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check are mandatory. Ability to secure a commercial driver’s license may be necessary. Personal transportation, auto liability coverage, and a clean driving record are required. Occasional overnight travel for training is expected. The position generally involves 200 days per year, including holidays and leave, with year-round work for EHS teachers. State-approved background checks and physicals are required. The workplace is tobacco-free, and uniforms are mandatory for staff exposed to tobacco in homes or vehicles.
6. Additional Roles: Selected staff may serve as School Readiness Coaches or special education specialists, participating in advisory meetings, supporting training, and acting as resources for teaching staff.
7. Physical Requirements: Must undergo a physical exam post-offer, including drug screening and T.B. testing. Physical demands include lifting over 50 pounds in emergencies, stooping, sitting on child-sized furniture, hearing, odor detection, and adequate vision.
