Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) seeks an experienced Environmental Health and Safety leader to oversee hazardous materials and regulatory compliance programs. You will direct a four-person team, supervise audits, and coordinate emergency response planning to protect people and the environment.

Responsibilities include policy development, performance trending, and ensuring UTMB campuses meet state and federal EHS requirements, with a focus on continuous improvement and risk

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in environmental, natural, or applied science, or a related field, and 7 years of related experience.
• 24- or 40-hour HAZWOPER certification within 6 months of hire is required.
• Must have a valid Texas driver's license and be able to operate a UTMB vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Provides directional leadership for hazardous materials and environmental compliance programs at UTMB, encompassing comprehensive management of hazardous waste operations with a team of four direct reports, including regulatory reporting, compliance audits, and hazardous materials emergency response efforts.
• Monitors compliance with RCRA, AST/UST, DOT HazMat, MSW Type V, SPCC plans, and related regulations; develops and implements action plans for risk reduction.
• Provides expert knowledge and coaching to junior staff; reviews and approves policy development and reporting; coordinates agency audits.
