Job summary

American Ordnance, a Day & Zimmermann company, seeks an Environmental Health and Safety Specialist to manage EHS programs at the Milan Army Ammunition Plant. You will ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and company regulations while guiding safety improvements on site.

The role emphasizes environmental sampling, inspections, reporting, and process safety planning, requiring the ability to communicate technical concepts to diverse teams and to work with regulators and contractors alike.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or Occupational/Industrial safety & health is required.
• 3+ years of safety training/experience is required.
• Training/experience in environmental programs is preferred.
• Explosive safety experience and/or environmental compliance experience is preferred.
• Valid Driver's License is required.
• Background screening is mandatory for all candidates.
• Positive attitude and collaboration are essential for the team.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate Health and Safety Programs in designated Plant areas and develop safe procedures.
• Perform inspections to ensure permit and environmental compliance and maintain schedules.
• Prepare reports for environmental programs (RCRA, CWA) and permits.
• Assist in Health & Safety reporting and develop Process Safety Management Plans.
• Assess hazards and recommend preventive measures; inspect facilities and worksites.
• Interact with regulators, site leadership, and contractors to promote safety.
