Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. in Rahway, NJ is seeking a Specialist - Environmental Health and Safety to provide technical leadership and program support for high-risk work, fire life safety, contractor safety, and related EHS compliance at the Rahway site.

You will collaborate with operating departments, area management, and contractors to integrate EHS requirements into daily operations. The role covers HRW program reviews, training delivery, incident investigations, risk assessments, and management

Qualifications

• BS with preference for Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, Environmental Science, or Science; MS preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of applied professional experience in industrial safety, environmental and/or EHS.
• Strong written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage high-risk activities.

Responsibilities

• Manage HRW programs including lockout-tagout and high-risk tasks.
• Review permit-to-work systems and deliver HRW training.
• Liaise with project teams to ensure contractor safety compliance.
• Provide EHS support for fire life safety, incident investigations, and audits.
• Maintain EHS data using site management systems and report metrics.
• Assist with regulatory inspections and regulatory submissions.
