ADVICS Manufacturing Ohio Inc. is seeking a Safety Specialist to protect Team Members, drive regulatory compliance, and reduce workplace injuries in our manufacturing facility.

You will conduct audits, investigate incidents, coordinate health resources, deliver training, manage records, and partner with production and engineering to sustain ISO 14001 objectives and safety culture. This is a full-time exempt role with occasional travel and a focus on continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in environmental or safety science or equivalent experience.
  • 1–2 years of safety experience; OSHA knowledge; strong written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint required.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance audits and hazard correction across federal, state, and local rules.
  • Investigate incidents and near misses; identify root causes and trends.
  • Coordinate occupational health, ergonomics, security, and workers’ comp resources.
  • Deliver and document training for new hires, processes, and refresher courses.
  • Assess hazards and implement corrective and preventive controls.
  • Lead Emergency Response Team and drills; maintain plans.
  • Promote safety awareness; maintain signage and notices.
  • Maintain records and submit required reports.
  • Support ISO 14001 objectives and related documentation.
  • Gemba Walks to review and verify corrective actions.

Job Description: Safety Specialist

Job Purpose

The Safety Specialist protects Team Members, supports regulatory compliance, and helps prevent workplace injuries in the manufacturing environment.

Objectives of this role:
  • Engage team members in safety requirements, problem-solving, and prevention.
  • Promote open communication and safety awareness.
  • Reduce risk through assessments and the hierarchy of controls.
  • Maintain compliant policies, procedures, and records.
  • Maintain a visible presence in daily operations.
Role Responsibilities
  1. Compliance and Audits: Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local requirements; conduct inspections and correct hazards.
  2. Incident Investigation: Investigate incidents and near misses, identify root causes and trends, and verify corrective actions.
  3. Case Management: Coordinate occupational health, ergonomics, security, and workers’ compensation resources and outcomes.
  4. Training: Deliver and document new-hire, process, powered industrial truck, and refresher training.
  5. Hazard Control: Assess manufacturing hazards and implement corrective and preventive controls.
  6. Emergency Response: Lead the Emergency Response Team; maintain plans and conduct drills for fires, spills, natural disasters, and other emergencies.
  7. Communication: Promote safety awareness and maintain facility signage and communication boards.
  8. Recordkeeping: Maintain incident, inspection, training, and compliance records and submit required reports.
  9. Environmental Management: Support ISO 14001 objectives, procedures, audits, corrective actions, training, and documentation.
  10. Gemba Walks: Conduct routine workplace reviews, assign corrective actions, and verify effectiveness.
  11. Collaboration: Work with production, maintenance, engineering, human resources, and other departments to resolve safety and environmental concerns.
Leadership Responsibilities:
  • Lead cross-functional incident investigations and corrective actions.
  • Build accountability and leader ownership of the safety culture.
Required Competencies

Skills and Qualifications
  • Associate degree in environmental or safety science, a related technical field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One to two years of safety experience.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and applicable state requirements.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Three to five years of safety experience, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with ISO management systems.
Position Type/Hours
  • Full-time, exempt; primarily Monday–Friday, with support for all shifts as needed.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed in office and manufacturing areas with exposure to noise, fumes, moving equipment, and vibration. Required personal protective equipment must be worn.
Physical Demands
  • Requires frequent standing, speaking, hearing, reaching, and hand use, with occasional walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
Travel
  • Occasional overnight regional and international travel required.
