Job summary

Marvin is seeking a Safety & Health Specialist to support and execute the Safety & Health program at a Marvin facility in Kansas City. You will implement OSHA-compliant practices, lead training, and maintain essential records to sustain an injury-free workplace.

This role reports to Operations at the location and requires collaboration with manufacturing teams. Starting at $62,500 per year, the position offers health insurance, paid holidays, parental leave, a 401(k) match, and profit sharing

Qualifications

• Associates degree or equivalent experience in health and safety.
• Minimum 2 years in environmental health and safety, preferably manufacturing.
• Certifications such as OSHA 30, OHST or NSC Advanced Safety certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and conduct safety training including new employee orientation.
• Develop safety reports from systems like Origami and Safety Culture.
• Coordinate health & safety activities to promote injury prevention.
• Maintain safety policies, records, and compliance files.
• Drive audits and document findings for leadership review.

Job Overview

The Safety & Health Specialist is an individual contributor role that is responsible for supporting and executing the Safety & Health program to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment that meets OSHA and best practice standards. These duties will be carried out at a specified Marvin facility, with the role reporting up through the Operations structure at the designated location.

Work Schedule:

Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 4:00pm

Highlights of your role

• Prepare and conduct Safety & Health related education, communication, and training to include new employee orientation, safety committee meetings, and safety alerts.
• Develop and share Safety & Health related reports driving out of systems such as Origami, Safety Culture and others.
• Gain subject matter expertise for federal, state, and Marvin enterprise safety & health compliance, including maintenance of applicable files, documents, and records.
• Coordinate Safety & Health activities at a manufacturing site to comply with all applicable regulations and company processes and procedures to promote a best-in-class safety culture predicated on injury prevention.
• Champion all Safety & Health activities within the facility by working closely with employees and management to recognize, generate and implement ideas to continually improve safety.
• Maintain local Safety & Health policies and procedures within a facility, which will adhere to no less than Enterprise-level material.
• Maintain employee records documenting certifications or licenses obtained, completion of training, and other employee records as it relates to Safety & Health.
• Drive and maintain facility readiness for internal and external audits.
• Conduct self-assessment Safety & Health audits, including documenting findings, producing reports, and sharing with applicable leadership.
• Test and service safety equipment and systems.
• Support the use of the control hierarchy, such as implementation of engineering and administrative controls to abate or minimize safety hazards.
• Coordinate applicable health screenings and ensure completion for designated facility needs (hearing, hazmat physical, respiratory fit testing, etc.).

You're a good fit if you have (or if you can)

• Associates degree preferred or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 2-years experience in environmental health and safety
• Experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
• Demonstrated engagement in safety activities preferred (e.g., safety committee member, first responder, etc.)
• Currently hold one or more of the following certifications, or ability to obtain within 1 year of employment if not in possession of at the time of hire:
  • NSC Advanced Safety Certificate
  • OSHA 30 Hour, and/or
  • Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician Certification (OHST)
• Ability to gain certification to be considered an authorized person for specific OSHA service, maintenance, and inspection requirements

• Knowledge of OSHA standards
• Ability to effectively collaborate with Operations and be able to balance safety with business needs
• Excellent communication and computer skills (Microsoft Office)
• Aptitude for technology
• Ability to work effectively with management as well as with associates from the floor
• Willingness to grow within the Health & Safety space, including seeking additional training and certifications
• Ability to travel (<10% per year)
• Willingness to work occasionally outside of core hours
• Ability to frequently stand and walk around facility
