Huvepharma in Saint Louis, MO, is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented EHS (Environmental Health & Safety) Senior Specialist to serve as subject matter expert for all applicable environmental health and safety requirements for 5 US locations. This position is also responsible for developing and implementing organizational safety and environmental programs. This position will work with sites to have frequent site inspections of workplaces, and collaborate to minimize or eliminate hazards from processes, such as incorrect working methods, and materials.
Responsibilities:
- Assure compliance with all Federal, State and Local regulations pertaining to Health, Safety, and Industrial Hygiene.
- Clearly communicate strategic objectives and priorities of Health and Safety and Industrial Hygiene to management members, gain commitment, and provide periodic status reports to meet goals and the timely correction of hazardous conditions or procedures.
- Ensure, through a planned audit program, the facility compliance of all operations with OSHA, NIOSH, NFPA, local regulations and Corporate Occupational Health and Safety policies/guidelines.
- Advise Operations management during the development of construction projects, and in day-to-day work initiatives as they impact environmental and safety areas.
- Plan and coordinate major initiatives impacting employee safety and industrial hygiene, such as risk management and life safety.
- Design and implement facility-wide training efforts and recommend actions needed to achieve high-quality programs and necessary compliance with Corporate Federal, state and local requirements.
- Utilize internal resources, corporate specialists, and contract services in the development of programs and services that positively impact employee safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics and safety areas.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge on all existing and proposed standards, codes, and laws as they impact employee safety, health, and industrial hygiene.
- Complete government reports and schedules as required complying with OSHA and local regulatory requirements.
- Write operating instructions for production process changes; ensure new equipment is installed according to standards and protocols.
- Conduct periodic EHS related visits to sites to conduct safety and environmental observations of shop floor activities, develop applicable action items to address gaps, and support plant leadership in the enforcement of established safety requirements
- Administer the Respiratory Protection Program, including respiratory protection selection and use guidelines based on industrial hygiene monitoring results and available respiratory protective equipment, medical clearance, respiratory fit testing, and annual training.
- Conduct and or lead industrial hygiene monitoring for production employees. Analyze results and provide recommendations for manufacturing for process improvements.
- Develop the Emergency Response and Bloodborne Pathogen programs to include training and policy development/ review.
- Conduct evaluation, selection, and recommendations for personal protective equipment.
- Administer the contractor safety training program to include the development and delivery of contractor training.
- Investigate work-related incidents and coordinate employee care with Human Resources
- Deliver New Employee EHS training.
- Develop content and provide subject specific training to meet regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, training for Hazard Communication, Authorized Employee Lockout/Tagout; Confined Space Competent Person; Respiratory; Bloodborne Pathogen; First Aid; CPR and AED; Aerial Work Platform; Powered Industrial Truck; Qualified Electrical, and Arc Flash.
- Lead internal EHS audits of USA facilities to verify compliance with all EHS regulations and company policy.
- Review and update SOPs, policies, and batch records to ensure they meet current standards and practices.
- Verify compliance with EHS training requirements.
- Manage the safety and environmental written programs and update as required
- Lead the EHS committee team in St Louis and provide guidance to additional site safety committees.
- Evaluate proposed regulations to determine the potential impact to the Company and keep management informed as potential regulations are nearing promulgation.
- Must always comply with current Good Manufacturing Practices.
Education, Skills, and Experience Requirements
- BS and/or MS in an EH&S related discipline, Engineering, Occupational Safety, Occupational Health, Industrial Hygiene or equivalent preferred.
- 5-7 years of progressive experience in environmental, health, and safety in a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DNR and other pertinent regulations.
- OSHA 30 Hr. Training
- Accident Investigations Training
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodology as well as accident investigation, root cause analysis.
- Strong leadership abilities and the ability to be vocal and interactive with employees.
- Must possess good organizational skills as well as be knowledgeable with the Microsoft Office suite, including MS Office, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
