Safety Technician Position Summary
The Safety Technician supports the Environmental Health & Safety EHS program by promoting a safe workplace ensuring compliance with OSHA and company requirements conducting safety inspections supporting employee training investigating incidents and driving continuous improvement in safety performance This position works closely with operations maintenance and leadership teams to identify hazards and reduce workplace risks
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Safety Compliance
- Conduct routine facility and workplace safety inspections
- Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and recommend corrective actions
- Ensure compliance with OSHA environmental and company safety policies
- Assist with regulatory inspections and audits
- Maintain safety records permits and documentation
Incident Investigation
- Assist in investigating injuries near misses property damage and environmental incidents
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action development
- Track corrective actions to completion
- Prepare incident reports and maintain investigation records
Training and Employee Engagement
- Deliver safety orientation for new employees
- Conduct safety training on topics includingLockoutTagout LOTOPPE requirementsHazard CommunicationForklift SafetyEmergency ResponseErgonomicsFire SafetyFacilitate toolbox talks and safety meetingsPromote employee participation in safety programs and committees
Hazard Identification and Risk Reduction
- Perform Job Safety Analyses JSA and risk assessmentsAssist departments in developing safe work proceduresMonitor implementation of corrective and preventive actionsSupport continuous improvement initiatives related to workplace safety
Emergency Preparedness
- Assist with emergency response planningCoordinate drills and evacuation exercisesMaintain emergency equipment inspection recordsSupport first aid AED and fire protection programs
Qualifications
Education
- Associate degree in Occupational Safety Environmental Health & Safety Industrial Technology or related field preferred
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Experience
- 2 years of manufacturing distribution warehouse or industrial safety experience preferred
- Experience working in OSHA regulated facilities
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards
- Understanding of incident investigation and root cause analysis
- Strong communication and training skills
- Ability to audit facilities and identify hazards
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
Preferred Certifications
- OSHA 30 Hour General Industry
- Certified Safety Professional CSP candidate
- Associate Safety Professional ASP
- First Aid
- CPRAED Instructor
- Forklift Trainer Certification
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk production and warehouse areas for extended periods
- Ability to climb stairs ladders and access equipment platforms
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to wear required PPE including safety glasses hearing protection steel toe footwear and respiratory protection when required
