Job summary

West Virginia University is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to develop, implement, and continually improve occupational safety programs across campus facilities. The role requires strong communication, regulatory knowledge, and the ability to work with diverse teams.

You will investigate incidents, support safety training, and help manage biosafety and hazardous materials programs while ensuring compliance with NFPA, OSHA, EPA and state regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Safety Management or related field required.
• Master’s degree in one of the above areas preferred.
• A minimum of four years of directly related professional EHS experience.

Responsibilities

• Investigate injuries and illnesses and recommend preventive actions.
• Assist with accident and injury logs and workers' compensation support.
• Respond to incidents, emergencies, and indoor air quality concerns.
• Develop and deliver EHS training for faculty, staff, and students.
• Support biosafety, hazardous materials, and laboratory safety programs.
• Conduct industrial hygiene monitoring and prepare related reports.
