Job summary

Mountaire Farms in North Carolina invites qualified students pursuing degrees in Safety Management, EHS, or engineering to join as an Energy Safety Intern. The role focuses on reviewing equipment inventories, identifying energy-isolating devices, and developing LOTO procedures to strengthen compliance and employee safety in a manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in Safety Management, Safety Engineering, OSEH/EHS, or related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for risk evaluation and safety initiatives.
• Ability to review, develop, and document procedures with high accuracy.
• Effective cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Safety teams.
• Self-motivated team player with commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
• Valid Driver's license and ability to pass Mountaire MVR check.
• Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Conduct hands-on reviews of equipment and hazardous energy sources to strengthen LOTO compliance and safety across manufacturing operations.
• Revise and develop LOTO standard operating procedures to support the Goal Zero initiative.
• Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Safety teams to ensure clear, accurate procedures.
• Gain real-world experience in safety program management and regulatory compliance.
• Contribute to projects that enhance workplace safety and operational excellence.
• Complete assigned tasks and present summer project results.
• Attend seminar series and participate in evaluations weeks 5 and 10.
