Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing.
• Experience managing EPCRA Tier II, TRI, SPCC, NPDES, and RCRA programs.
• Proven success leading safety programs and improving culture.
• Experience mentoring or developing EHS professionals preferred.

Position Summary

The Safety & Environmental Manager is responsible for leading all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs across manufacturing operations. This individual will ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations while fostering a culture centered on safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.

The role serves as a strategic partner to plant leadership, providing guidance on regulatory compliance, environmental stewardship, risk mitigation, and employee safety. The successful candidate will drive EHS initiatives, lead compliance programs, develop safety systems, and support sustainable operational performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and maintain environmental compliance programs to ensure adherence with EPA, state, and local regulations.
• Manage all environmental reporting requirements, including:
  • EPCRA Tier II reporting
  • Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reporting
  • Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) programs
  • Stormwater permitting and compliance (NPDES)
  • Industrial wastewater permitting and monitoring
  • RCRA hazardous waste management programs (SQG/LQG)
• Oversee hazardous waste storage, inspections, manifesting, and employee training.
• Maintain environmental permits, records, and regulatory documentation.
• Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and inspectors.
• Lead environmental audits, compliance assessments, and corrective action initiatives.
• Monitor regulatory changes and implement programs to maintain compliance.

Safety Leadership

• Develop, implement, and sustain comprehensive safety programs aligned with OSHA regulations and industry best practices.
• Partner with operations leadership to identify, assess, and mitigate workplace hazards.
• Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses while driving corrective and preventive actions.
• Manage Hazard Communication (HAZCOM), chemical safety, and PPE programs.
• Conduct facility safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
• Track key safety metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce injuries and incidents.
• Ensure employee compliance through effective training and accountability programs.

Safety Culture & Operational Excellence

• Champion a proactive, employee-focused safety culture throughout the organization.
• Collaborate with plant managers and supervisors to integrate safety into daily operations.
• Coach leaders and employees on risk management, safe work practices, and regulatory requirements.
• Support Operational Excellence, Lean Manufacturing, and 5S initiatives that improve safety and productivity.
• Drive employee engagement through safety committees, observations, and hazard identification programs.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop EHS personnel and cross-functional safety teams.
• Provide environmental and safety support across multiple facilities as needed.
• Develop and deliver training programs covering environmental compliance, workplace safety, and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate responses to regulatory inspections, audits, and agency inquiries.
• Build organizational capability through continuous education and development initiatives.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• 5+ years of Environmental, Health & Safety experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Demonstrated experience managing environmental compliance programs involving:
  • EPCRA Tier II reporting
  • TRI reporting
  • SPCC programs
  • Stormwater permits (NPDES)
  • Industrial wastewater permits
  • RCRA hazardous waste compliance (SQG/LQG)
• Proven success leading safety programs and driving positive safety culture improvements.
• Experience managing, mentoring, or developing EHS professionals and cross-functional teams preferred.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and EPA environmental compliance requirements.
• Experience leading environmental reporting, permitting, and regulatory compliance activities.
• Strong incident investigation, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with plant leadership and operations teams.
• Experience implementing continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing, Operational Excellence, or 5S.
