Job summary

Stepan Company is seeking an EHS&S Manager for our Elwood, IL facility to lead the Environmental, Health and Safety department and drive continuous EHS improvements. The role partners with multiple internal teams to advance process safety, regulatory compliance, and a strong safety culture.

Responsibilities include directing the EHS program, overseeing the emergency response team, and developing staff through coaching, training, and resource planning.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in EHS leadership or management.
  • Proven experience establishing and managing EHS systems.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of Illinois and USEPA environmental, air, wastewater, waste, DOT regulations and reports.
  • Knowledge of OSHA VPP and ACC RCMS management systems.
  • Knowledge of United States Coast Guard MARSEC security regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership to the EHS Dept. through management of resources for continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  • Prioritize and manage to protect people, processes, products and the environment from exposures to injury, risk or economic loss.
  • Partner effectively with internal departments to identify and implement process improvements for EHS programs.
  • Develop, deploy, and deliver EHSS behavior, safety culture and critical EHS leadership strategies and programs.
  • Oversee the site emergency response team that handles fire, hazmat, confined space rescue, medical, and other site emergencies.
  • Develop EHS staff through guidance, development planning, coaching, training and resource planning.
  • Oversee and manage the site's Process Safety Management (PSM) system program such as PHA methodology and leadership including HAZOP and LOPA and other quantitative risk assessment methodologies; mechanical integrity; safe work practices.

Stepan is looking for an EHS&S Manager at our Elwood, IL facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide effective leadership to the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Dept. through effective management of the Department’s resources to ensure continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  • Prioritize and manage to protect people, processes, products and the environment from exposures to injury, risk or economic loss.
  • Partners effectively with internal departments to identify and implement process improvements for EHS programs.
  • Develop, deploy, and deliver EHSS behavior, safety culture and critical EHS leadership strategies and programs.
  • Oversee the site emergency response team that handles fire, hazmat, confined space rescue, medical, and other site emergencies.
  • Develop EHS staff through guidance, development planning, coaching, training and resource planning.
  • Oversee and manage the sites Process Safety Management (PSM) system program such as PHA methodology and leadership including HAZOP and LOPA and other quantitative risk assessment methodologies; mechanical integrity (process equipment and design, inherently safe design and RAGAGEP, preventive maintenance, testing and inspection); programmable and safety integrated systems integrity; operating procedures and consequence of deviation management: emergency response and mitigating technologies such as fire prevention and protection; incident investigation and root cause analysis; facility siting; management of change; process safety information management; safe work practices.
Qualifications
  • 10 years of experience.
  • Proven experience establishing and managing EHS systems with a thorough knowledge of concepts, tools, and methodologies of EHS management.
  • Demonstrated outstanding collaboration and communication skills and leadership of cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Illinois and USEPA laws and regulations (air, wastewater, waste, DOT, and any other applicable regulations) and required reports
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OSHA VPP and ACC RCMS management systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of United States Coastguard MARSEC security regulations.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree required -science, engineering, occupational safety or environmental related discipline preferred

Pay Range: $117,000 - $170,000

The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.
