Job summary

United States Digital Space LLC is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Engineer to support Launch Operations at the Vandenberg AFB launch facility. The role focuses on mitigating occupational and compliance risk, performing hazard assessments, investigating incidents, and strategizing with site leaders to prevent injuries while ensuring local, state, and federal regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree is required.
• 3+ years of experience in environmental, health, and safety disciplines.
• Experience interpreting and applying federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations such as the SCAQMD.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain compliance with applicable regulations (Cal-OSHA, Federal OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, Vandenberg AFB).
• Collaborate with leadership to complete job hazard assessments and implement safety policies.
• Participate in pre/post launch site hazardous operations and incidents investigations.
• Monitor exposure to physical and chemical hazards and recommend remedial actions.
• Inspect facilities and equipment and implement machine guarding when needed.
• Maintain documentation from hazard identification audits.
• Investigate accidents to determine root causes and preventive measures.
• Ensure environmental compliance with EPA, CUPA, and regional agencies and perform due diligence audits.
• Review new environmental laws and provide guidance to management.
• Maintain records for permitted sources defined by SCAQMD.
• Manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
