Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or science discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in an EHS role within manufacturing or semiconductor settings.
  • Strong knowledge of EPA, OSHA, RCRA, DOT, and state/local regulations.
  • Hands-on hazardous waste management experience including labeling, manifesting, and disposal coordination.
  • Experience with chemical inventory management and safety practices.
  • Experience performing safety inspections and maintaining records.
  • Excellent organizational and cross-department communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee weekly eyewash/emergency shower and monthly fire extinguisher inspections across all sites.
  • Coordinate hazardous waste pickups with licensed vendors and ensure proper labeling, storage, and manifesting.
  • Conduct chemical audits to verify inventories and storage conditions.
  • Oversee chemical purchasing requests, assess hazards, and ensure proper documentation.
  • Serve on the hazardous spill response team and coordinate cleanup per procedures.
  • Manage environmental compliance programs including air permitting, water, and waste management.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting (Tier II, TRI) and recordkeeping.
  • Conduct workplace safety inspections and recommend corrective actions.
  • Deliver and manage EHS training for employees (hazard communication, chemical safety, emergency response).
  • Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure accessibility.
  • Assist with incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Oversee industrial hygiene monitoring (noise, air sampling, ergonomic assessments).

Job Title: EHS Engineer

Position Description

Through direction from the EHS Director, the EHS Engineer is responsible for managing the day-to-day environmental, health, and safety operations at QCi’s four semiconductor manufacturing facilities in New Jersey and Massachusetts. This role requires a strong environmental compliance background and encompasses hazardous materials management, chemical inventory control, emergency response readiness, and regulatory compliance activities. The successful candidate will play a hands-on role in maintaining a safe work environment while ensuring the facility meets all applicable federal, state, and local EHS regulations. The role will be based in Bedford, MA location and travel to the other locations as needed with 25-30% travel expected.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Oversee weekly eyewash/emergency shower and monthly fire extinguisher inspections across all sites; perform inspections directly at Bedford and ensure completion at remote locations.
  • Coordinate and schedule hazardous waste pickups with licensed vendors, ensuring proper labeling, storage, and manifesting in accordance with RCRA and applicable state regulations.
  • Conduct routine chemical audits to verify on-site quantities, confirm proper storage conditions, and maintain an accurate chemical inventory database.
  • Oversee the chemical purchasing process by reviewing new chemical requests, assessing hazards, and ensuring proper documentation before materials are approved and ordered.
  • Serve as an active member of the hazardous spill response team at the Bedford, MA location, responding to chemical spills and releases and performing cleanup in accordance with established procedures.
  • Oversee environmental compliance programs including air permitting, stormwater management, wastewater discharge monitoring, and waste minimization initiatives as needed.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting and recordkeeping for environmental programs such as Tier II, TRI, and hazardous waste generator requirements as needed.
  • Conduct workplace safety inspections and audits, identifying hazards and recommending corrective actions.
  • Oversee the administration and delivery of EHS training programs for employees, including hazard communication, chemical safety, and emergency response procedures.
  • Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and ensure the SDS library is current and accessible.
  • Assist with incident investigations, root cause analyses, and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Oversee industrial hygiene monitoring activities, including noise surveys, air sampling, and ergonomic assessments as needed.
Required Skills And Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or science discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in an EHS role within a manufacturing or semiconductor environment preferably in an ISO class 4 clean room environment.
  • Strong environmental compliance background with working knowledge of EPA, OSHA, RCRA, DOT, and applicable state and local regulations.
  • Hands-on experience with hazardous waste management, including accumulation, labeling, manifesting, and coordinating waste disposal.
  • Familiarity with chemical inventory management systems and chemical safety practices.
  • Experience conducting safety inspections (eyewash stations, emergency showers, fire extinguishers) and maintaining inspection records.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in recordkeeping and regulatory documentation
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2-3 years of EHS management experience.
  • OSHA 30 general industry, NFPA 70E Arc Flash, HAZWOPER 40-hour certification or equivalent emergency response training.
  • Experience with environmental permitting (air, water, waste) and regulatory reporting (Tier II, TRI).
  • Familiarity with NFPA codes, fire protection systems, and life safety requirements.
  • Experience working with 5S, lean manufacturing, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong electrical background, including NFPA 70E program management.
  • ASP, CSP, CHMM, or other relevant EHS certifications.
  • Ability to wear and operate Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and other personal protective equipment (PPE).
