Job summary

ESS, Inc. seeks an EHS Associate to support safety operations on a large-scale data center construction project in Lisle, IL. This contract role covers daily field safety activities, documentation, inspections, and coordination with the project safety team for MEP installations.

The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and able to communicate effectively with contractors and project personnel in a busy construction environment.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of construction safety experience.
• Experience on industrial or data center projects preferred.
• MEP construction exposure strongly preferred.
• Strong documentation and organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Support the Site Safety Manager with daily safety activities.
• Conduct routine jobsite safety observations and inspections.
• Assist with OSHA compliance and site safety procedures.
• Maintain safety paperwork, logs, and tracking.
• Document safety records and training materials.
• Coordinate toolbox talks, safety meetings, and orientations.
• Track employee/site safety credentials and subcontractor safety compliance.
• Identify unsafe conditions and communicate corrective actions.
• Support incident and near-miss documentation and follow-up.
• Maintain SDS documentation and other safety records.
• Promote safe work practices with field supervision and subcontractors.
• Keep electronic and physical project safety files organized.
• Support safety activities related to MEP installations.

Position Type: Contract / Project-Based

Position Overview

We are seeking an EHS Associate to support safety operations on a large-scale data center construction project in Lisle, IL. This position will support the project safety team with daily field safety activities, documentation, inspections, and coordination related to MEP (Mechanical, Electrical & Piping) construction.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working in an active construction environment, and able to communicate effectively with contractors, subcontractors, and project personnel.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Site Safety Manager and project safety team with daily safety activities.
• Conduct routine jobsite safety observations, inspections, and documentation.
• Assist with monitoring compliance with OSHA requirements, site safety policies, and project-specific procedures.
• Support daily and weekly safety paperwork, reports, logs, and tracking.
• Assist with maintaining safety records, training documentation, inspection reports, and corrective-action documentation.
• Help coordinate and document toolbox talks, safety meetings, orientations, and training.
• Assist with tracking employee/site safety credentials and required documentation.
• Monitor subcontractor compliance with site safety requirements.
• Assist with identifying unsafe conditions and communicating corrective actions to appropriate personnel.
• Support incident and near-miss documentation and follow-up.
• Assist with maintaining SDS documentation and other required safety records.
• Work closely with field supervision and subcontractors to promote safe work practices.
• Assist with maintaining organized electronic and physical project safety files.
• Support safety activities associated with mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other MEP installations.

Qualifications

• 7+ year of construction safety
• Experience working on industrial, data center, or large-scale construction projects preferred.
• MEP construction experience or exposure strongly preferred.
• Strong organizational and documentation skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
• Ability to communicate effectively with field personnel, subcontractors, and management.
• Ability to spend extended periods on an active construction jobsite.
