Job summary

PITCO Foods in Northern California is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Assistant Manager to support the EHS Manager and drive company-wide safety programs. You will help maintain SOPs, conduct inspections, deliver training, and coordinate with departments to ensure regulatory compliance.

This role requires knowledge of Cal/OSHA and strong communication, with the ability to work across production and warehouse environments. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.

Qualifications

PITCO Foods is a large independent food service distributor in Northern California. Based in San Jose, CA, PITCO also has distribution centers in Brisbane, San Leandro, and Sacramento.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Assistant Manager supports the EHS Manager and team in the development, implementation, and administration of company-wide safety and environmental programs. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and fostering a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment across all PITCO Foods facilities.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Assist in the maintenance and updating of safety documentation, including SOPs, policies, and procedures.
• Support safety inspections of equipment, machinery, and mechanical safety guards.
• Assist in the delivery of safety training programs, including new or updated SOPs and policies.
• Support the implementation and administration of safety programs, including but not limited to:
  • Hazard Communication (HazCom / Right-to-Know)
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Fall Protection
  • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
  • Environmental compliance programs
• Assist with work-related injury investigations, ensuring corrective actions are identified, documented, and completed in a timely manner.
• Conduct facility walkthroughs and inspections, including production and warehouse areas, to monitor hazards, equipment conditions, temperature, noise levels, and employee work practices (areas may be wet or noisy at times).
• Perform data entry and recordkeeping to maintain accurate compliance and safety documentation.
• Coordinate with internal departments to ensure alignment with EHS policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA and Federal OSHA regulations, safety programs, and basic environmental regulations (EPA).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, customers, and vendors.
• Strong English verbal and written communication skills.

• Valid California Driver’s License with a clean driving record.

EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety & Health or a related field (preferred).
• Minimum of 1 year of hands-on experience in Environmental Health & Safety or a related role.
