Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Hazard recognition and risk assessment support including Gemba Walks and KYT hazard-prediction sessions.
  • Lead incident investigations with root cause analysis and communicate findings to the Senior EHS Manager.
  • Develop and deliver EHS training content and orientation for new hires and contractors.
  • Support scheduled EHS and industrial hygiene compliance activities and follow-up actions.
  • Assist with emergency response coordination across Carrollton sites.
  • Compile monthly safety targets and support continuous improvement of EHS plans and policies.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role is well suited to a professional with strong process, compliance, or continuous-improvement experience, ready to build EHS program-level expertise within Carrollton's integrated ISO 14001/45001 management system. Based at Carrollton Cable, the EHS Specialist facilitates hazard-prediction and Gemba activity, leads incident response and investigation, runs training and orientation content, and provides subject-matter input to hazard identification and risk assessment, exercising independent judgment on routine safety matters within established programs.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, industrial hygiene, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience in EHS, compliance, or continuous-improvement roles.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, or substantial relevant experience.
  • Proven experience applying, developing, and administering programs and practices in EHS, compliance, or continuous improvement.
  • Strong training and motivational skills, with proven ability to provide technical support and conduct EHS training across departments to influence behavioral change.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience managing cross-functional meetings and ensuring follow-up on action items.
  • Knowledge of project completion and reporting for regulatory agencies.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including risk classification and data analysis to support monthly EHS reporting and compliance tracking, plus strong Word and PowerPoint proficiency for procedure documentation, training content, and presentation materials.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrated growth mindset, with a track record of building new technical and platform skills on the job.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across production, maintenance, and quality teams.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • STS (Safety Trained Supervisor) or ASP (Associate Safety Professional).
  • CIH or CSP certification.
  • CESCO, CESCP, or CPWM certification (NREP).
  • Six Sigma (Black Belt or Green Belt) a plus.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Hazard Recognition & Risk Assessment
  • Support value stream teams running their own Gemba Walks, and verify that findings, assigned actions, and closures are complete and effective.
  • Support value stream teams running Monthly KYT (Kiken Yochi Training) hazard-prediction sessions, and verify that sessions are effective and properly followed through.
  • Apply the site's risk classification matrix to enrich exported safety observation and incident data, assigning Risk Type, Risk Level, and Classification, before entry into the Safety Indicators tracker.
  • Provide subject-matter input to Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) development.
  • Provide subject-matter input to identifying environmental aspects and impacts and their significance.
Incident Management
  • Lead incident response and investigation, including root cause analysis, ensuring findings are documented and communicated to the Senior EHS Manager.
  • Support accuracy of incident documentation and training records.
Training & Orientation
  • Identify training needs and maintain competency requirements for roles within the assigned value stream.
  • Develop the content for 5-Minute Safety Talks and other floor-level safety engagement materials.
  • Own curriculum content and deliver New Hire Safety Orientation and Contractor Safety Orientation.
  • Support ongoing and refresher safety training beyond new-hire orientation.
  • Support workforce awareness of EHS policy, hazards, and individual responsibilities relevant to their role.
Environmental & Regulatory Compliance
  • Support execution of scheduled EHS and industrial hygiene compliance activities, including findings and follow-up.
  • Provide consultation and elevate corrective actions arising from regular compliance inspections (first aid kits, spill kits, hazardous waste) and SPCC/SWPPP field support.
  • Stay informed on EHS program status at Connectivity; day-to-day compliance execution at that site is outside this role's accountability.
Emergency Response
  • Support the Emergency Coordinator role, and participate in emergency evacuation drills and response coordination across both Carrollton sites.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
  • Compile and review monthly safety targets, including classification and risk assessment of results, for site reporting.
  • Stay current on industry best practices and regulatory changes, contributing to the development and updating of EHS plans, programs, and policies.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
  • Strong technical background in incident investigation, hazard prediction, floor-level risk identification, and environmental aspects and impacts, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and facilitation skills, both verbal and written, to support value stream teams running Gemba Walks and KYT sessions, and to develop and deliver training and safety talk content.
  • Ability to coordinate across the EHS function without formal supervisory authority.
  • Strong safety culture awareness.
