Job summary

CAIRE Inc. is seeking a Senior EHS and Training Manager to lead the Training and Environmental Health & Safety teams across sites. You will develop and sustain EHS programs, ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA and state/local regulations, and drive safety culture.

You will manage KPI reporting, oversee environmental permitting, audits, and ISO 14001:2015 EMS implementation, and lead sustainability projects reducing energy use, emissions, and waste. Travel up to 10% is expected.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of EH&S experience in manufacturing or related sectors.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification required.
  • Current CPR, AED, First Aid certification.
  • Ability to use analytical tools to identify and drive improvements.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor Training and EHS teams.
  • Develop and sustain EHS objectives and procedures aligned with company goals and regulations.
  • Manage KPI reporting to Executive leadership.
  • Maintain environmental permits and submit reports to agencies (air, water, wastewater, SARA Tier II).
  • Conduct audits and maintain environmental programs (SPCC, storm water, air emissions, hazardous waste).
  • Lead ISO 14001:2015 EMS implementation and certification efforts at two plants.
  • Drive sustainability projects to reduce energy consumption, emissions, waste, and improve recycling.
  • Foster safe, efficient, and consistent work practices and culture.
  • Develop and sustain training programs and training KPIs for production staff.
  • Oversee risk assessments, incident investigations, and regulatory compliance.

Job description

Essential Functions

  • Manage and mentor teams dedicated to Training and Environmental Health and Safety.
  • Work cross-functionally between departments and sites globally to:
  • Develop, Sustain and improve upon EHS objectives, practices and procedures that align with the company goals, industry standards, state, federal and local regulations to drive the business.
  • Champion and model our core EHS values, engraining them into the culture and the psyche of the organization.
  • Manage KPI reporting and presenting descriptive analysis to Executive leadership team on prescribed frequency to ensure we are complaint with our company goals.
  • Maintain environmental permits , preparing and submitting various environmental reports to the appropriate agencies including air emission reports, water report, wastewater discharge reports, SARA Tier II and Form R.
  • Conduct audits, while maintaining the completion of these inspections through updated environmental programs including: SPCC, storm water, air emissions, hazardous waste, WWTP, emergency response, and others as required.
  • Establish and implement ISO 14001:2015 standard EMS and work with the team and Corporate EHS to obtain and maintain ISO 14001:2015 certification at two plants.
  • Lead implementation of sustainability projects at the plant to reduce energy consumption, reduce GHG emissions, reduce waste generation, and increase recycling. Maintain and monitor energy, waste and water data and other metrics at required frequency.
  • Play an active role in management, implementation and overall culture of adherence to safe, efficient and consistent work practices and conditions.
  • Develop and maintain standard work data, prepare and submit various reports to the appropriate agencies including OSHA annual summaries, and workers’ compensation first reports of injuries.
  • Conduct risk assessments for risk control, directives, equipment, control hazardous energy, industrial hygiene, PPE, chemicals, emergency drills, and regulatory compliance.
  • Establish systems for incident prevention and recommend appropriate programs and processes to ensure employee safety and process integrity.
  • Assess education and training needs, evaluate EH&S programs/processes, develop EH&S training as necessary, and provide employee training on EHS programs and requirements applicable to the facility.
  • Establish systems for environmental incident prevention and ensure thorough incident investigations are conducted for all environmental incidents, including but not limited to spills, operational upsets, waste management, other emergencies, and inspections by outside agencies.
  • Communicates proactively with the Corporate EHS team where larger issues arise toward problem solving and collaboration.
  • Maintains presence on the production floor and builds relationships with both production employees and the salaried management team.
  • Develop and sustain a training program that supports production employees throughout the on boarding process as well as ongoing training requirements for current employees.
  • Develop and sustain training KPIs and report to the Executive Leadership Team when applicable.

Supervisory Responsibility

Yes, this position will have managerial responsibilities within both Training and EHS departments.

This job operates in a professional office environment and manufacturing/distribution environment.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance.

Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Travel

Yes, 10% per year. Some of travel is international.

Required Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in EH&S, manufacturing process knowledge or consulting area with emphasis on textile and manufacturing processes and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification required.
  • Current CPR, AED, First Aid certification
  • Ability to use analytical tools to identify and drive improvements.

Preferred Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (environmental, industrial hygiene, safety, chemical, civil, or mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • LSSGB Certification
  • Environmental: Strong understanding of Federal and State environmental laws and regulations and Federal and State OSHA standards. Working experience and strong knowledge of regulatory Environmental, Health and Safety practices and regulatory requirements (e.g. to air permits and compliance, wastewater discharge permit and compliance, wastewater treatment processes and management, groundwater withdrawal, waste management, sludge management, SPCC, storm water, emergency response/Hazwoper, SARA, ASTs and Boilers operation and compliance, soil and groundwater remediation machine guarding, lockout, electrical safety, chemical management, workers’ compensation management, risk assessment and management, ergonomic risk reduction, etc.)
  • Health & Safety: Strong understanding of Federal and State environmental laws and regulations and Federal and State OSHA standards. Working experience and strong knowledge of regulatory Health and Safety practices and regulatory requirements (e.g., machine guarding, lockout, electrical safety, chemical management, workers’ compensation management, risk assessment and management, ergonomic risk reduction, etc.
