Job summary

UC San Francisco (UCSF) seeks an Environmental Health & Safety lead to manage Environment of Care, fire and life safety, and hazardous materials programs. Coordinate testing, oversee waste management, and guide compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, Cal/OSHA, EPA, and state agencies.

You will collaborate with Infection Prevention, Facilities, Environmental Services, and local Fire Department officials to implement EH&S elements, provide regulatory interpretation, and report to the Safety

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or four years of relevant experience.
  • Valid California driver’s license.
  • Thorough knowledge of key EOC program areas including fire and life safety, hazardous materials and waste management, construction safety, and infection prevention support.
  • In-depth understanding of applicable local, state, and federal regulations (TJC, CMS, NFPA, OSHA, EPA, CDPH, State Fire Marshal).
  • Thorough skill in interpreting and applying regulatory codes, technical standards, and hospital policies to ensure program compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Experience communicating technical information clearly to a wide range of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead one or more EH&S program areas and coordinate testing of fire alarm and suppression systems.
  • Oversee hazardous materials inventory and medical/hazardous waste management.
  • Coordinate internal compliance audits and support readiness for Joint Commission, CMS, NFPA, Cal/OSHA, EPA surveys.
  • Provide regulatory interpretation and guidance based on current best practices and laws.
  • Work with Infection Prevention, Facilities, Environmental Services, and local Fire Department officials to implement EH&S elements.
