Job summary

Layup Parts in Huntington Beach, CA is hiring its first dedicated Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager to own EH&S. This hands-on, technical role will build safety programs, air permits, and waste systems to support a fast-moving prototype shop.

You’ll lead hazard analyses and risk assessments for new equipment and processes, manage Cal/OSHA and AQMD compliance, and serve as the primary contact for regulators and audits as the company scales.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on EH&S experience in manufacturing, ideally composites, aerospace, or environments with chemicals, dust, and heavy equipment
• Technical background in engineering, chemistry, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or related field, or equivalent experience
• Working knowledge of Cal/OSHA (Title 8) and federal OSHA (29 CFR 1910) requirements
• Experience with air permitting and compliance, ideally with SCAQMD or another California air district
• Hands-on experience running hazardous waste programs, including characterization, accumulation, manifests, and generator requirements under RCRA and California DTSC rules
• Track record of standing up real safety programs from scratch and maintaining documentation for compliance
• Familiarity with REACH, RoHS, and Prop 65 or ability to learn quickly
• Partnership mindset to earn buy-in from on-floor teams
• Good judgment prioritizing risks and adapting to startup pace

Responsibilities

• Own Cal/OSHA recordkeeping and compliance paperwork (300, 300A, 301 logs, training records, written programs, inspections) so we’re audit-ready
• Lead hazard analyses, job safety analyses (JHAs), and risk assessments for new/changed equipment and processes
• Design controls for carbon fiber/composite dust, resin/solvent exposure, and industrial hygiene risks including dust collection and ventilation
• Support air quality compliance with AQMD by providing data for VOC and particulate emissions, usage, and monitoring
• Stand up and maintain hazardous waste program including characterization, accumulation, labeling, storage, and vendor coordination
• Build and run safety programs (IIPP, Hazard Communication, LOTO, machine guarding, respiratory protection, PPE, etc.)
• Work with regulators, auditors, insurers, and customer EH&S requests as primary point of contact
• Train teammates and embed safety into work practices with engineers and leadership
• Lead incident/near-miss investigations with root-cause analysis and corrective actions
• Ensure programs are adopted, not just written
